The Minnesota Twins can't afford any more missteps if they hope to challenge for the American League Central title – which makes Wednesday's game even more important than usual.

The Twins look to rebound from a disheartening 7-6 loss to the division-leading Chicago White Sox as the teams resume their four-game series. Game 1 was washed out by rain, and the Twins came up just short in their attempt to rally from a five-run deficit in Tuesday's defeat – dropping 12 1/2 games back of Chicago as the teams inch closer to the All-Star break.

Here are our best free MLB betting picks and predictions for Twins vs. White Sox on June 30.

Starting pitchers

Bailey Ober (0-0, 4.64 ERA): Ober is still looking for his first decision in his sixth start of 2021, but had pitched well before running into some problems last time out. The 25-year-old was charged with four runs on six hits over 4 1-3 innings but was spared the loss in a 10-7 defeat to Cincinnati; he has allowed just three runs over 14 innings in his previous three turns.

Dylan Cease (6-3, 3.81 ERA): Cease rebounded nicely from an implosion against the Houston Astros on June 17 (3 1-3 IP, 7 R), holding Pittsburgh to one earned run over 5 2-3 strong innings with seven strikeouts. Cease has faced the Twins once already this season, surrendering three runs on five hits over five innings with seven strikeouts in a 9-3 Chicago triumph.

Moneyline pick

How you view this game really comes down to whether you place more trust in how these teams have fared for the season or their recent performance. Chicago is the class of the AL Central and has won two in a row but had dropped seven of eight prior to that. Minnesota, on the other hand, is 7-3 over its previous 10 games despite Tuesday's loss.

The White Sox are missing a considerable share of their offense, and that has been a major problem in recent weeks. And while they've come around with seven runs in each of their past two games, those seven losses in eight games all featured fewer than three runs scored. They enter the final day of June with a 93 team wOBA+ for the month, which ranks 23rd overall.

The Twins, on the other hand, have seen the bats come alive in June, boasting a 112 wRC+ that places them seventh in the majors. They're also one of only four teams with an ISO at .200 or better for the month, a major reason why their .463 June slugging percentage is the fourth highest in the league.

This pitching matchup feels like a wash, so we're siding with the team that has been swinging the hotter bats and is much closer to full health than its opponent.

PREDICTION: Twins (+105)

Over/Under pick

The combination of booming bats and terrible pitching (their team ERA of 4.89 is fifth-highest in baseball) has made the Twins one of the top Over plays in the majors so far, as they enter Wednesday with a 48-25-4 mark (fueled by five Overs in their previous six games overall). That record is even more one-sided on the road, where Minnesota has gone a sizzling 24-11-2 O/U.

And while Chicago is missing a lot of firepower, that hasn't seemed to matter in recent meetings with the Twins. The White Sox are averaging 6.6 runs over the last 10 head-to-head meetings, including a 16-run outburst in a May 17 victory.

Our confidence in these pitching staffs is fairly wonky, so we're leaning toward the Over in what is shaping up to be another high-scoring affair at Guaranteed Rate Field.

PREDICTION: Over 9 (-110)
