The Minnesota Twins face the Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 2 of their series tonight.

L.A. star Yoshinobu Yamamoto gets the nod while Minnesota counters with Simeon Woods Richardson, and that pitching matchup has my Twins vs. Dodgers predictions siding wth the Under.

Find out more with my MLB picks for Tuesday, July 22.

Twins vs Dodgers prediction

My Twins vs Dodgers best bet: Under 8.5 (-110 at BetMGM)

Yoshinobu Yamamoto has lived up to his hefty 12-year, $325 million contract during Year 2 in the States, earning an All-Star bid thanks to a 2.59 ERA.

After regressing in June (4.21 ERA), he’s regained his form in July (2.45 ERA) and most recently held the Giants scoreless across seven innings of three-hit ball.

The splitter savant faces a Minnesota Twins lineup that has been below average against right-handed pitching this month (95 wRC+ and 23.7% K rate), and it’ll help to have a pitcher's umpire in Doug Eddings behind the dish.

His pitching counterpart — Simeon Woods Richardson — is in arguably the best form of his career after allowing one earned run or fewer in three of his last four starts.

There’s a quality bullpen behind him that has performed well lately (fourth-best xFIP in July), so there are answers if the 24-year-old starter struggles in the early going.

Not to be expected of such a star-studded lineup, the Los Angeles Dodgers have performed terribly at the plate lately. Since July started, they rank 29th in both wRC+ and wOBA against RHP.

Twins vs Dodgers same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 8.5

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Over 6.5 strikeouts

Dodgers -1.5

Yamamoto strikes out 10.3 batters per nine innings in home starts and should be able to utilize his best pitch, the splitter, against a Minnesota lineup that ranks in the Bottom 10 in value against the offering.

Minnesota is bad on the road (20-32), and L.A. is looking to get back on track after its recent losing skid. Dave Roberts’ squad has the right pitcher on the mound to do just that, and the Dodgers have found success against the Twins recently, going 15-2 in the last 17 meetings.
