The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers face off again tonight after the Tigers cruised to a blowout win last night.

The Yankees will aim to bounce back and even the series and we like their chances to do just that.

My Tigers vs. Yankees predictions break it down here as I bring you my MLB picks when the two teams meet on Wednesday, September 10.

Tigers vs Yankees prediction

Tigers vs Yankees best bet: Yankees Team Total Over 4.5 (+100)

One of my favorite things in baseball is finding these unique opportunities, and this one tonight has given me my eighth two-unit article play of the season.

Those “unique opportunities” refer to this: finding pitchers who are still respected in the market but have terrible matchups and fading them, or finding pitchers who are not respected in the market, have great matchups, and backing them.

This may sound relatively simple, and in some ways, I suppose it is, but usually baseball throughout the season features a bunch of these “lukewarm” occurrences—tonight is not that.

Although the respect has dissipated a bit down the stretch with how he’s performed, Jack Flaherty is still a starting pitcher who gets a good degree of it in the market because of historical context.

The problem for him tonight is that he offers up a quintessential perfect matchup for the New York Yankees hitters. Check all the boxes:

  • Throws the fastball over 45% of the time, check.
  • Has a barrel rate in the bottom 20% of the majors, check.
  • Gives up a good amount of homers (1.4 per 9 innings this season), check.

I projected the Yankees around 5.2 runs tonight, and I expect them to get after Flaherty early and often, but I saw slightly more value on this than earned runs or Under outs. I’d play it to -125.

Tigers vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

After a ridiculous August, Giancarlo Stanton has cooled down immensely this month, which means he’s about due for the pendulum to swing the other way and some positive regression.

Everything about this matchup suggests he’ll have a good chance to make an impact, so I’ll take a stab at him to go deep.

Almost directly correlated is Aaron Judge to record a run. He should have plenty of opportunities and ways to get on base tonight.
