George Springer owns Griffin Jax, and that history makes his total bases my top play.
The Toronto Blue Jays are -115 favorites and will try to climb back into their series with the Tampa Bay Rays, sending Braydon Fisher to the mound opposite Jax. Toronto’s offense has been thin, but George Springer has quietly heated up, and his history against Jax headlines my card tonight.
Read on for my Rays vs. Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks for this Wednesday, July 22 matchup.
Rays vs Blue Jays predictions
Rays vs Blue Jays best bet: George Springer Over 1.5 total bases (+130)
MLB player props are limited in this Toronto Blue Jays offense, but I like George Springer against Tampa Bay Rays starter Griffin Jax.
Springer has been quietly sharp lately, picking up at least one hit in five of his last six games, including an extra-base knock in Tuesday’s loss.
He also owns Jax, going 3-for-7 against the right-hander with two home runs and three RBI. That’s a matchup edge worth backing at plus money.
And while Jax has been decent this season, his 5.31 expected ERA and .274 expected batting average rank in the 13th and 14th percentiles, respectively, giving credence to the idea that he's been at least somewhat lucky to this point, which only further plays to Springer's advantage.
I’d play this bet until +120.

Rays vs Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)
For the same-game parlay, I’m betting on a night with some offense.
I’ll start with Over 8.5 total runs, banking on a hot Rays lineup and a thin Toronto pitching staff rolling out a bullpen day.
I’ll double down on Springer Over 1.5 total bases from my best bet, then add the Blue Jays moneyline, where the models give the home side a slight edge in a near-pick’em.
Rays vs Blue Jays SGP
- Over 8.5
- George Springer Over 1.5 total bases
- Blue Jays moneyline

Rays vs Blue Jays home run pick: Daulton Varsho (+575)
For a little variety, Daulton Varsho makes for a solid quarter-unit play. He hasn’t homered since June 23, but he’s been ramping up, with a hit in five of his last six games, including one of Toronto’s only two RBI on Tuesday.
Varsho is also oddly well-suited for Jax’s arsenal of mostly junk. Jax leans on his changeup 23% of the time, and Varsho slugs .421 against offspeed pitches.
I’d bet this at +525 or longer.
