After taking two of three from the Arizona Diamondbacks to begin the weekend, the San Francisco Giants will aim for the series win on Sunday with their hottest starter on the hill.

Can Jordan Hicks keep it rolling after fighting his own control in a gutsy showing earlier in the week, or will Arizona’s bats wake back up? Let's dive in with my MLB picks and Diamondbacks vs. Giants predictions below.

My best bet
Giants moneyline (-110 at DraftKings)

My analysis
The Arizona Diamondbacks may sit 11th in wRC+ in the early goings of the season, but I still think there are plenty of reasons to doubt this team at the plate.

They were a middling offense a year ago and rode a random power streak to a World Series appearance, but for the season, they graded out below average offensively and carried a lot of that into 2024.

Arizona loves to put the ball on the ground, and while its expected batting average ranks among the best in the league, it’s not as if it loves to face a ground ball pitcher. The Diamondbacks are hitting just .214 against ground-ballers this season with a measly .618 OPS, which should put Jordan Hicks in a fantastic spot.

Hicks walked three and struggled with command against the Marlins, and was honestly lucky to only allow two runs in that outing. With that said, he continued rolling up ground balls as he’s done at a stunning 58.1% rate this season and allowed just three hits as a result.

The right-hander won’t have to worry much about walks here against a Diamondbacks team that loves to swing and rarely strikes out. That should be the difference no matter who replaces Merrill Kelly on the mound.

Diamondbacks vs Giants opening odds

  • Run line: Arizona +1.5 (-215) | San Francisco -1.5 (+190)
  • Moneyline: Arizona -105 | San Francisco -115
  • Over/Under: Over 7.5 | Under 7.5

Diamondbacks vs Giants spread and Over/Under analysis

  • San Francisco was initially offered as a slim -112 favorite before early money pushed them out to -115 early on Sunday. The line came back a bit and then jumped right back to -110, making this game a firm pick'em.

  • The total, meanwhile, remained right at the opening number of 7.5 before a quick jump to 8 right around five hours before first pitch. If you do find a 7.5 out there, it’ll be juiced towards the Over.

  • It should come as no surprise, then, that 76% of the bets and 83% of the handle at DraftKings has come in on the Over. A low 36% of the tickets and 35% of the cash is on San Francisco to win.
