Starting pitchers
Touki Toussaint (1-0, 1.35 ERA): Toussaint has only started one game for the Braves this year, and he gave up one earned run in just 6 2-3 innings of that outing against the San Diego Padres. The righty was 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA in four starts in Triple-A before getting back to the Braves, and he’ll now look to build on his last big league start. He will have done his job if he can turn in a quality start here.
Aaron Nola (6-6, 4.64 ERA): Nola’s last few trips to the hill have been an absolute nightmare for the Phillies, as the righty has given up 15 earned runs in his last 16 innings on the mound. Nola has allowed five homers over that three-game span, and he has also given up 22 hits. He just isn’t doing a good job of keeping his opponents guessing, and he now faces a Braves team that has scored nine earned in its last nine innings against him.

Moneyline pick
Look, there’s just no way you’re going to be rushing to back Toussaint in any game, but an argument can be made that he’s actually the more reliable starter on the mound here. Sure, Nola has more talent than the 25-year-old — and he’s a lot more experienced — but there’s just no ignoring how bad the former Philadelphia ace has been.
Nola has been shelled in each of his last three trips to the mound, and now faces a Braves team that has had his number in each of their last two meetings.
Freddie Freeman is 14-for-53 with three doubles, two homers, and 12 RBIs against Nola in his career, and Austin Riley is 6-for-20 with two bombs and three RBIs. If that isn't enough, Ozzie Albies is 10-for-38 with two doubles, a triple, and two RBIs. That just shows that this Atlanta offense has enough to rattle Nola, even without Acuna Jr.
If the Braves' offense can produce the way it is capable of, the pressure will be off Toussaint in this game.
PREDICTION: Atlanta (+154)
Over/Under pick
While Toussaint has a good chance of keeping his team in this game, he did allow eight earned runs in 16 2-3 innings of work in Triple-A. He wasn’t exactly some dominant force in the minors, and he’s going to take his licks in the big leagues soon enough.
This Philadelphia team is capable of scoring runs, so look for him to allow three or four in this one. However, the reason this total is so enticing is because of how poorly Nola has been pitching.
The righty needs to prove he can turn things around before bettors start taking the Under in his games.
PREDICTION: Over 9.5 (+100)
