Starting pitchers
Ross Stripling (3-6, 5.04 ERA): If there’s anything good to say about Stripling’s prospects here, it’s that the righty has gone 3-2 with a 3.27 ERA in day games this year. However, the 31-year-old has given up 10 earned runs over his last two starts, and he only got one out in his last trip to the mound. He gave up six earned runs in the first inning and was chased by the Boston Red Sox.
Rich Hill (6-4, 3.87 ERA): Hill was just traded to the Mets a few days ago, so he’s not going to be all that comfortable with his surroundings here. However, at 41 years old, the veteran should be able to block all that out and get up to speed quickly. He hasn’t been anything special this season, but he was consistently solid for the Tampa Bay Rays this year. He’s another one that pitches well during the day, as he was 4-1 with a 3.49 ERA in afternoon games with the Rays.

Moneyline pick
The Blue Jays were on fire in their 10-3 win over the Mets on Saturday, as they got homers from George Springer, Marcus Semien, Teoscar Hernandez (two), and Bo Bichette. However, Toronto now faces Rich Hill, who pitched five innings of three-run ball against them in Tampa Bay on July 11.
Now the lefty’s home starts will get to take place at Citi Field, which is one of the most pitcher-friendly parks in all of baseball. The only good news for Toronto is that Hill has given up seven earned runs in 10 total innings of work in Queens. But the Mets still have the edge on the mound here.
Stripling hasn’t had to face many players on this Mets team, which means he could skate by in the first few innings. It normally takes hitters a little bit of time to catch on to somebody they haven’t seen before. But after that, look for New York to really start bringing in some runs.
Pete Alonso, who is 1-for-1 with a double against Stripling, has been on a tear lately. He has two hits in five of his last six games, and he has also homered in three of his last five. Look for him to keep rolling here, and don’t be surprised if this Mets offense puts up a big number in a victory here.
PREDICTION: Mets (-125)
Over/Under pick
The Blue Jays have a Top-10 batting average in baseball against lefties, and they also have the fourth-best slugging percentage in the league against southpaws.
They might not be able to match New York’s production against Stripling in this game, but it’d be surprising if they aren’t scoring a decent number of runs in this game.
Overall, this one has the looks of a high-scoring affair, with New York having the slight edge when it comes down the end — assuming the Mets’ lousy bullpen can get them across the finish line.
