The New York Mets can't seem to catch a break, having won only one of their past 10 games.
My Braves vs. Mets predictions expect the home side to lean heavily on the piping-hot Juan Soto, who has reached another gear in June.
Let’s break it all down with my June 24 MLB picks.
Braves vs Mets prediction
My Braves vs Mets best bet: Juan Soto Over 0.5 runs (-115 at bet365)
⚾ Pick Analysis
Juan Soto has turned into a run scoring machine of late. He has scored 17 times over his last 19 games and touched home plate at least once in 12 of those games, good for a 63% success rate.
Soto has done a great job of getting on base in that span, hitting for average while also drawing plenty of free passes.
He has recorded 21 hits over the last 19 while also walking 19 times. He’s gotten on base on 40 occasions, good for an average of more than two per game.
The New York Mets are an above average scoring offense and they have a very dangerous cleanup man in Pete Alonso hitting right behind Soto in the order.
If Soto gets on base, the Mets are well equipped to bring him home. We’ve seen that more and more over the last few weeks.
Spencer Strider is a difficult pitcher to contend with but he is still shaking off the rust following major surgery.
He has won only two of seven starts thus far and his ERA is nearly four. He is progressing but still not as untouchable as we’ve grown accustomed to seeing.
Be it with the bat or with his eye, Soto should be able to earn his way on base a time or two. If that’s the case, I like his chances of scoring.
Braves vs Mets same-game parlay (SGP)
🚀 SGP Analysis
Soto has as many walks (3) as hits (3) against Strider in his career. He has grinded out at bats and earned free passes at a healthy rate against one of the game’s most dynamic arms.
I expect that to continue Tuesday night. Soto has walked at least once in 60% of his games this season and Strider has not been immune to walks, dishing out 11 over his last five starts.
Strider throws a ton of fastballs and sliders. Isolating those two pitches, Soto has a walk rate of nearly 23% against right-handed pitchers over the last couple of months.
Lastly, I like the Mets to keep this inner-division battle close. They are one of the best run prevention teams in the majors and the Atlanta Braves have scored three runs or fewer in three of the past four games.
If they can keep the Braves to a manageable number, Soto and co. should help the Mets score enough to keep this game within striking distance.
