Blue Jays Picks, Predictions & Best Bets vs the Reds for September 2

None of the Blue Jays' recent uneven play can be laid at Bo Bichette's feet. Coming off a 4-for-4 game, the shortstop is again poised to contribute against Reds LHP Nick Lodolo.

The Toronto Blue Jays' bullpen will need to figure itself out quickly if this team has hopes of holding onto the lead in the American League East following another late-inning loss.

But maybe the Jays' best shot is to outslug the Cincinnati Reds and eliminate the need for high-leverage innings for the relievers. And who better to lead the charge than Bo Bichette?

Toronto’s star shortstop has been one of the best hitters in baseball since the middle of August, and my Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks are backing him to have another productive day at the dish on Tuesday, September 2.

Blue Jays predictions for September 2

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Bo puts in work

Bo Bichette Over 0.5 Runs (+100 at BetVictor)

Bo Bichette sure did his best to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a big win on Labor Day. The slugging shortstop socked a ball out of the park in the top of the ninth to give the Blue Jays the lead, before yet another bullpen collapse allowed the Cincinnati Reds to walk Toronto off in the bottom of the inning.

The home run capped off a 4-for-4 day for Bo, who has been one of the hottest and most productive hitters in baseball for the last few weeks. Bichette is hitting .540 with a 1.117 OPS, which includes eight extra-base hits, nine RBIs, and 11 runs scored.

So, Bo is doing it all; his current run now has him in the 100th percentile in expected batting average, and I’m backing him to stay hot tonight when he digs in against Reds starter Nick Lodolo.

The 27-year-old left-hander has been impressive this season, but he’s making just his second start since returning from a blister that cost him most of August. His first start back lasted just 4 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

And not surprisingly, his numbers at the very hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark have not been as good. Lodolo has a 4.10 ERA and surrenders a .780 OPS at home this season.

The Blue Jays need a win in a bad way. The offense needs to be the catalyst, and Bo has been the engine making this lineup go. Take him to score a run at even money, something he’s done in nine of his last 16 games.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Bo Bichette Over 0.5 Runs

Alejandro Kirk Over 0.5 RBIs

Jose Berrios Over 4.5 Strikeouts

The next leg of this SGP just makes too much sense. Alejandro Kirk has been hitting behind Bo for much of this run, and - surprise, surprise - he’s been very productive.

The Blue Jays catcher is hitting .311 with a 1.026 OPS with four home runs and 13 RBI over his last 13 games.

Another way Toronto can alleviate some pressure from its bullpen is with another solid start, and Jose Berrios is the next man up.

You never know quite what you’re going to get from the right-hander. He can look unhittable for four innings and then completely fall apart in the fifth.

He is coming off a great start against the Marlins, limiting them to two runs on four hits while striking out eight over 6 1/3 innings. Cincinnati ranks 21st in wRC+ and has the sixth-highest K-rate vs. righties. I like him to go Over 4.5 strikeouts today, which he’s done in four of his last seven starts.
