We have a busy MLB betting slate today that includes a matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners at Rogers Centre.
Easton Lucas starts for Toronto this afternoon, and I’m not expecting him to stay in the ballgame too long with Seattle's bats heating up. Find out why with my Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks for April 20.
Blue Jays predictions for April 20
- Best bet
Lucas Over 2.5 earned runs
(-133 at BetVictor) - SGP pick
Lucas Over 2.5 earned runs
Lucas Under 15.5 outs
Bo Bichette Over 0.5 hits
(+575 at BetVictor)
Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Quick outing
Easton Lucas Over 2.5 earned runs (-133 at BetVictor)
It’s the third and final game of the series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners. The M’s are sending veteran Luis Castillo to the mound, while Toronto replies with Easton Lucas.
Lucas was a great story for Toronto's pitching staff during the first two turns through the rotation, allowing no runs on just four hits with wins against Washington and Boston.
However, the clock struck midnight for the Jays starter against the Braves in his last outing when he gave up eight runs, three walks, and three homers in five innings.
That’s closer to the pitcher with a career 7.49 ERA than the guy who looked CY Young caliber in his first two starts.
Seattle’s offense is starting to heat up after a slow start to the season. The Mariners had 10 hits in yesterday’s win over the Jays and have had double-digit hits in three of their last four games, culminating in 25 total runs.
Meanwhile, the long ball has been a big factor in Seattle's emerging offense. The Mariners have eight homers in their last four games and rank sixth in the majors with 27 dingers on the season.
Lucas was hit hard in his last outing and is in the 28th percentile in exit velocity against this season. The power bats on the Mariners should be excited about this matchup, especially against a righty in a batter-friendly ballpark.
Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)
I’ll continue to fade Lucas with the second leg of the SGP and take the Jays starter to stay Under 15.5 outs.
He’s only gone Over this number once in his career, and considering I’m anticipating him to give up 3+ runs today, I don't expect him to pitch into the sixth inning either.
Lastly, I’ll continue to ride Bo Bichette’s hot bat. He’s recorded a hit in six of his last seven games and ranks third in the majors in hits. Let’s take him to go Over 0.5 hits this afternoon.
