Starting pitchers
Andrew Heaney (1-2, 4.11 ERA): Heaney is having an up-and-down season thus far but he is coming off of his best start of the year. The lefty pitched 6 2-3 innings of shutout baseball against the Rays, along with 10 strikeouts. Unfortunately, the Angels weren’t able to come up with a win in that one—but perhaps they’ll make up for it tonight.
Jose Urquidy (3-2, 3.51 ERA): Urquidy has given the Astros three quality starts in a row and he’ll now look to make it four against a struggling Angels offense. The righty doesn’t quite have any threatening bat-missing pitches, but he has done a good job of giving his explosive offense a chance to win games. It’ll be a successful night if he can do that again here.

Moneyline pick
Last season, the Angels chased Urquidy in his first start of the year, when he was pulled in the fourth inning. Houston's young righty walked three batters in that short appearance, and he also gave up two earned runs on four hits. Now, the righty comes into this meeting with Los Angeles on a roll—but the Angels are going to feel confident in their ability to get to him tonight.
Not a lot of these players have faced Urquidy much, but David Fletcher is 5 for 7 with a double and an RBI against him and Shohei Ohtani took him deep in one of his two plate appearances. Ohtani has been on fire all year, so it’s not out of the question he’ll do it again. Plus Mike Trout is always a threat to get it going, along Jared Walsh, who has been a monster this year with a .339 batting average.
As for Heaney, the lefty needs to be careful against Jose Altuve and Yuli Gurriel. Those two are a combined 15 for 44 with three homers and seven RBI against the lefty, and both are hitting well to start this season.
However, Heaney looked extremely sharp against the Rays in his last start, and he can be impossible to hit when he has control of his stuff. He should be in command in tonight’s game, and that would give his team a great shot at pulling off the upset. They’re a great value play in this spot.
PREDICTION: Angels (+108)
Over/Under pick
Both of these pitchers should be feeling pretty good about this matchup, even if Urquidy did have a rough start against the Angels a year ago.
The righty is in a groove entering tonight’s game, and Heaney’s confidence should be sky-high after that start against Tampa Bay.
Sure, somebody could end up blowing up and allowing four or five runs, but the Under is the more appealing play in this game—especially with the first two games in this series going Under as well.
PREDICTION: Under 8.5 (-110)
