What I want to see early is pretty simple.

First, Lambert has to look comfortable immediately. I do not need dominance. I want strikes, weak contact, no walks, no 25 pitch first inning. If Seattle’s flat bats suddenly start smoking balls off him in the first couple innings, I’m going to start cursing 

Second, Houston needs to make Kirby work. Even if they do not score right away, I want long at bats, fouls, baserunners, something that keeps him from cruising through six on 70 pitches. If Kirby is at 50 plus pitches by the third or fourth, I feel a lot better about the full-game angle because now that Seattle bullpen is coming sooner.

Third, stay attached. If this is 0-0, 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 through five, I am perfectly happy. I did not bet Houston because I thought they were going to smash Kirby in the first inning. I bet the full game because I wanted the game to eventually get beyond him.

I don’t do live betting at all because the juice is too high. I’ve tried it before and had some successful runs with basketball, but I won’t be involved with any of that tonight.
