Your Opinion on where Stephen Curry will get drafted

I think what hurts Westbrook is the fact that he plays on such a deep team. He could go to a school like Virginia Tech and be a star, like Beasley did with Kansas St, but he chose a deep, talented team. I honestly think him, Love and Collison could be better served by all going back to school next year and working on their game, but it's hard to turn down the money if teams are telling you you're a top 10 pick. I think Westbrook is someone who will excel more at the next level than college. He's got a great work-ethic, which will help him improve quickly. He has a great wingspan, which lets you play taller than you are, and he's an extremely underrated defensive player. I'm sure you know this if you're a Bruin fan, but the kid can play defense as well as anyone in college. Westbrook attacks the rim well too and can bring the explosive dunk. He needs to work on his outside shooting though, and probably get his FT shooting better as well. I'm not sure what position he would play at the next level. He could play either PG or SG.

Augustin might not go ahead of him because he's only 5'11. That doesn't mean he wouldn't be a great player at the next level, but teams look at that stuff when drafting. I honestly think Westbrook could be a top 5 pick if he stays another year or two, and him and Love I'm sure would win a title or two if they both decided to stay all four years (not likely though).

Bargnani won't be a bust. I see the guy play a lot being a Raps fan, and he has the skill set to be an all-star in the NBA. You have to give European players a few more years to develop and learn the NBA game than North Americans because the game is different over there. It's a lot more finesse style, which is why all the big guys over there can shoot the three.

You're right though. Some of these picks you just look back and say wtf? I'm still shaking my head with that Araujo pick. A lot of these busts are guys that had big tournaments then entered the draft and were overvalued because of the last couple of games. It's the same thing with football. If a guy has a huge bowl game he enters the draft (que JaMarcus Russell) and gets picked way too high.

That Greg Ostertag was a beast.

He needs more muscle in him to compete in the pro level and then he would look like another spud webb.

But as of right now...i think 2nd round at best IMO. I wouldn't even draft him if i was to draft b/c of his size right now.

  He needs to stay another yr or so ........  no reason to rush this, get in better shape, lifting weights and putting on some more pounds.  He will be a good pro in time... great shooter thats for sure.....

Not that it has anything to do with this thread but Oden is not only walking, he is jogging, dunking and playing in pick-up games.  He actually pissed off the front office guys by getting caught playing in a game at a local facility while the team was on the road.  His micro-fracture surgery went better than expected and he has a short recovery time as do all young people.  Its the vets in their 30s that have the surgery and never really come back from it.  He has taken the last 6 months to work on his upper body and is now supposed to be a chiseled block of granite.

1st of all, Stephen Curry will not be drafted.

And if he was to enter the draft he'd be very late 1st round or 2nd round at best.

I can name 20 players that will get drafted before Curry would in the 1st round.

What does Oden's injury have to do with anything? He's still going to be the best player from the draft, and yes that means better than Durant. Best players drafted in the 20th round? Really? That's gotta be tough to do since there are only 2 rounds in the NBA draft.

The best players are almost always drafted at the top of the draft.

Tim Duncan- 1st overall
LeBron James- 1st overall
Chris Paul- 4th overall
Carmelo Anthony- 3rd overall
Dwight Howard- 1st overall
Amare Stoudemire- 9th overall
Kevin Garnett- 5th overall
Dwayne Wade- 5th overall
Chris Bosh- 4th overall

Those are the best players in the NBA, and none were drafted outside of the lottery, so your statement makes no sense.

I think there are two separate, but equally valid discussions in this thread:

1) What tier of the draft does he go in?

and

2) How does his game translate to the NBA?

As for his draft position (1), I would have a very hard time seeing anyone spending a lottery pick on him. These picks belong to bad teams looking for future stars to build around. There's also a pretty considerable bias against 3 and 4 year college players with perceived lower ceilings. That being said, there are many highly decorated players who fall out of the lottery, but not out of the first round. Julius Hodge and Josh Howard are two that come to mind. Teams losing 50 games/year are going prefer a guy that might not be ready to play immediately, but that has the potential to one day score 20/game. I really feel though that there will be a team picking between 20-30 that needs a PG to stretch the floor shooting the 3. These teams will already have a strong nucleus and see value in a guy with a lower ceiling who can contribute 8-10 ppg right away.

With respect to his game in the NBA, I think the comparisons to JJ Redick are insane. Curry has far better handling, vision, and passing skills to Redick, who will always struggle to find a position in the league. Curry will never have to be a primary or even a secondary scorer in the league. Put him on a team with a big 2 guard and a 3 that can handle a little, and I see no reason why he can't play 25 minutes and score 10 ppg in the league right now. Curry will find a niche in the league, and if Damon Jones can keep a job for 10 years without playing any defense, I see no reason why a shooter as talented as Stephen Curry can't play. He may be a bottom third defender at his position, and he'll have adjust to becoming a primary ball handler and spot shooter, but don't kid yourself, he's getting a job in a couple years.

I will tell you what, if he is there when the Lakers pick, he would be a perfect fit and role player for them. At worst he would be a Paxson or Kerr ......
