Ohio State vs Iowa Picks & Props
OSU vs IOWA Picks
NCAAF PicksWhile Iowa held Michigan to just 19 points last week, the Wolverines also had two other drives end inside the Hawkeyes 20 with no points. The Buckeyes are one of the best teams in the country at finishing drives, ranking No. 13 in points per opportunity (5.11). With Jeremiah Smith and Julian Sayin, who ranks No. 2 nationally in QBR (92.8), the Hawkeyes' shaky secondary will be in trouble.
Ohio State will handle most of the scoring for the Over to hit, but I still like it at 48.5 or better. The Buckeyes are No. 7 in offensive success rate (52.4%) and No. 13 in points per opportunity (5.11). Iowa's pass defense has been uncharacteristically shaky (No. 66 in EPA per pass). Jeremiah Smith, who leads the country in receiving yards (617), is poised for a big day at Kinnick.
This is a big road spread for Ohio State, with GameDay on campus for Iowa, but I like the Buckeyes at -14.5 or better. The Hawkeyes are coming off a jaw-dropping win and don't match up well with Ohio State. Led by Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State's offense ranks No. 4 in EPA per pass, while Iowa's defense ranks just 66th. Defensively, the Buckeyes' secondary is the toughest Hank Brown will see all season, and Iowa's inability to run the ball is a problem.
Iowa will need to establish the run in order to control the ball, the clock, and this game. Kamari Moulton is locked in as the starter and has little competition for touches, so he should get a healthy amount of work against an underperforming Ohio State run defense (120th in rushing success rate allowed).
Bo Jackson is still Ohio State's RB1, but the gap between him and Ja'Kobi Jackson has narrowed. Ja'Kobi has handled 18 carries in the Buckeyes' last two games, narrowly below Bo's 22, and the Florida transfer has been highly effective (5.58 yards after contact per attempt).
Vonnahme is averaging 60.1 receiving yards across his last eight games, so take the steep discount on this number. Going into the year, led all returning tight ends in yards per route run (3.10), and now he's back healthy.
Ohio State needs a quality win after its Week 2 loss to Texas, and a road matchup against Iowa presents that opportunity. The Hawkeyes are coming off an outright win over Michigan, but were outgained by 144 yards and only rushed for just 58 yards. While Kinnick Stadium is one of the toughest environments in college football, Ohio State has the most well-rounded and talented offense Iowa has faced this season. With the Buckeyes looking to make a statement and Iowa potentially riding high after its upset win, Ohio State should be able to take care of business. If you can get -13.5, snag it!
This is a big road spread for Ohio State, with GameDay on campus for Iowa, but I like the Buckeyes at -13.5 or better.
Ohio State should quiet the crowd at Kinnick Stadium with its high-powered offense. The Buckeyes are No. 3 nationally in pass success rate (60.9%), and Iowa's pass defense has struggled (66th in EPA per pass). A few big plays to Jeremiah Smith could be the difference, especially late in the game where the Buckeyes massive talent advantage will shine.
