Notre Dame vs North Carolina Picks & Props
ND vs UNC Picks
NCAAF PicksNotre Dame has no reason to let off the gas this season, especially after being left out of the College Football Playoff a year ago. The Fighting Irish have to leave the committee with zero doubt that they are one of the best teams in the country. With a big game against BYU still two weeks away, they should be fully focused on North Carolina this week. Although the Tar Heels look far better than they did a year ago under Bill Belichick, they're going to get bullied by an elite defense that ranks No. 2 nationally and is allowing just 8.25 points per game. The Fighting Irish will be too overwhelming for the Tar Heels as they face their toughest test yet. I'm fully expecting a low-scoring game, with the Irish covering the 21.5-point spread. Playable to -22.5.

The biggest concern here is simple: Will the Irish take their foot off the gas?
As mentioned above, this Notre Dame defense, which has allowed opponents to score little to nothing against them, should be able to keep the scoring in check. Notre Dame will likely get out to an early lead and park the bus in the second half, playing conservatively.
North Carolina did manage to put up 20 points on Clemson, but 14 of those 20 came in the first quarter. The Tar Heels were completely shut out over the next three quarters. They now draw a defense that is allowing just 199 total yards per game this season.
The Tar Heels have done a tremendous job holding teams to under 10 points in the first half this season. However, the Fighting Irish have done an even better job, holding teams to under seven points in the first half. Not to mention, Notre Dame ranks fifth in first-half scoring, averaging nearly 27 points to kick off the 2026 season.
Even though North Carolina has looked solid out of the gate, the Tar Heels have yet to endure the talent level of Notre Dame. Do not even try to spit out the word "Clemson." Notre Dame's domination starts in the first half.
North Carolina has not faced anything close to the talent level of the Fighting Irish defense. The Tar Heels scored 20 points against Clemson, but 14 came in the first quarter before they were shut out over the final three quarters.
Now, they face a Notre Dame defense that ranks No. 1 in points allowed per game, surrendering just 8.3 points through the first few weeks of the season. The Fighting Irish also rank No. 1 in yards allowed, giving up a hair below 200 per game.
Any scoring in this matchup should come courtesy of the blue and metallic gold.
Notre Dame should have no trouble staying focused with Stanford and BYU still ahead on the schedule, while North Carolina enters off a bye following its loss to Clemson. Although the Tar Heels have improved significantly under Bill Belichick, they face a much tougher test against one of the nation’s elite defenses. Notre Dame has dominated defensively this season and should be able to control the game from start to finish. Expect a low-scoring matchup, with the Fighting Irish limiting North Carolina’s offense and creating enough separation to cover the 21.5-point spread.
Securing utter domination by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at a 6.64x price tag is well worth the squeeze, especially when the Irish can’t afford to take their foot off the gas with how cupcake-heavy their schedule is this season while trying to leave zero doubts about whether they should be in or out of the College Football Playoff.
