The Over 7.5 works because both lineups are swinging well and the number is low. Baltimore owns a 120 wRC+ over the last week, while Tampa Bay sits at 134 with real power. Neither starter is untouchable, and the Rays bullpen gives this matchup late scoring upside tonight overall.
Baltimore has a live underdog profile with Brandon Young pitching steadily and Shane McClanahan battling command issues. Young owns a 3.76 FIP over his last five appearances, while McClanahan has walked 4.85 BB/9 lately. The Orioles’ 120 wRC+ in the last week gives them enough offensive upside tonight against Tampa Bay here.
Cristopher Sánchez has taken a massive leap forward this season with a pristine 15-4 record with a 2.54 ERA and 181 strikeouts across 25 starts. His combination of a high-70s wipeout changeup and a heavy sinker is generating soft ground-ball contact and elite swinging-strike rates. That has made it that much easier for him to own the divisional-rival Miami Marlins throughout his career (3-0, 1.06 ERA in 7 appearances). Miami’s current lineup continues to struggle with swing-and-miss against left-handed off-speed pitches, making this a prime spot for Sánchez to work deep while racking up whiffs.
Dillon Dingler's power against right-handed pitching and excellent four-seam fastball numbers give him a strong matchup against Carmen Mlodzinski, making his home run prop worth a quarter-unit at +450 or longer.
The Under 8.5 leans on Bratt’s recent form and both bullpen profiles. Arizona’s offense is rolling, but Boston has cooled off, and the Red Sox are weaker at home. The Diamondbacks’ bullpen owns a 2.92 FIP with minimal homer damage, giving this matchup a lower-scoring path tonight at Fenway Park.
Arizona has value behind Mitch Bratt, who owns a 2.01 xERA over his last two outings. Boston has cooled off offensively and is weaker at Fenway, while the Red Sox are using a bullpen game. The Diamondbacks’ 133 wRC+ recent form gives them the edge tonight.
Carson Benge has shown solid power for the Mets in his rookie season, hitting 14 homers in 492 plate appearances. That includes three homers in August, with one coming over the weekend against the Nationals. After an awful start through April, Benge has shown massive improvement — slugging .560 in August — by far his best month yet.
While these teams have reputations as light-hitting teams, both have improved a bit as the season has worn on. While both rank below average in run scoring, they've gotten well out of the basement: the San Diego Padres are 21st (4.28 runs per game) and the New York Mets 22nd (4.18) in MLB. I'm betting the Over at -125 or better.
Bobby Witt Jr. draws one of my favorite spots on Monday, as the Royals shortstop owns the second-highest hitter rating of the day over at Batters-Box. Witt covers nearly 80% of Mason Barnett's pitch mix, and in nearly 30 elite ratings at home, he has cleared this prop more than 55% of the time, including seven of his last 10. Witt is also swinging a hot bat against right-handed pitching, posting a .333 BA, .519 SLG and .919 OPS across his last 30 plate appearances. Meanwhile, Barnett has been crushed by righties, making this -119 price worth paying.
Matt Olson enters Monday in an excellent spot against Twins right-hander Bailey Ober. Ober has struggled against left-handed hitters recently, allowing a 43.3% hard-hit rate, 13.3% barrel rate and 70% elevation rate over his last 30 lefties faced. Those hitters also own a .355 xBA, .680 xSLG and .363 xwOBA. Olson has been crushing the ball lately, producing a near 50% hard-hit rate and 32% barrel rate over his last 10 games, along with a .684 SLG and .447 ISO. After homering Sunday, Olson has another favorable matchup and is worth backing at near three-to-one odds tonight. Take this down to +275.
The Atlanta Braves come into tonight as winners of 13 of their last 20 games, and are starting one of the hottest pitchers in baseball post-All-Star break. Martin Perez is not only rocking one of the lowest barrel rates of his career, but since the break he owns a 1.00 WHIP, 1.08 ERA, and is holding teams to a .479 OPS. Not bad.
Miguel Vargas finds himself in an excellent spot against Shota Imanaga tonight. Vargas has been swinging a hot bat, posting a .634 SLG, .366 ISO and 12.5% barrel rate over his last 10 games. He has also produced a .520 SLG and .320 ISO against left-handed pitching over his last 30 at-bats, with a 50% hard-hit rate and 11.1% barrel rate. While Vargas only covers 52.4% of Imanaga's pitch mix, his expected numbers against those offerings help offset that concern. Meanwhile, right-handed hitters have posted a .341 xBA, .530 xSLG and 14.3% barrel rate against Imanaga over his last 30 batters faced. Vargas should feast at +300.
The White Sox enter Monday in a strong offensive spot against Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga. Chicago ranks as the third-highest-rated offense on the slate, according to Batters-Box, with four elite-rated hitters in the lineup. The White Sox have also started to heat up, posting a 148 wRC+, .385 wOBA and .888 OPS over their last six games. Meanwhile, Imanaga has shown some exploitable underlying numbers across his last three starts, allowing a nearly 15% barrel rate and 81.6% elevation rate, with opponents producing a .527 xSLG. This looks like another opportunity for the White Sox to keep rolling offensively against the Cubs.
After failing to deliver on Sunday, Shohei Ohtani gets another fantastic opportunity to go deep on Monday against Rockies starter Tomoyuki Sugano at Coors Field. Ohtani owns the No. 1 rating on Batters-Box and covers 100% of Sugano's pitch mix, while he has homered in 26% of 150 elite road ratings over the last three seasons. Sugano has also struggled against left-handed hitters, allowing 2.30 HR/9 and a 14% barrel rate over his last 60 faced. Those hitters have posted a .310 xBA and .638 xSLG. At +197, Ohtani is playable, but I would look for a boost.
Tomoyuki Sugano draws an excellent matchup to stay under his strikeouts against a Los Angeles Dodgers lineup that owns one of baseball's lowest strikeout rates away from home. However, Sugano has struggled to generate strikeouts at Coors Field, where he owns just a 13.33% strikeout rate. He also enters with the lowest matchup strikeout rate on Batters-Box and has stayed under this prop 63% of the time in 19 poorly rated matchup strikeouts. The Dodgers have been struggling offensively and need to get back on track, making Sugano a favorable punching bag.
Atlanta and Chicago send two of the best lineups in baseball to the dish, and they respectively rank eighth and third in wOBA against lefties for the campaign. The two clubs have also trended to the Over, and I'm particularly expecting White Sox southpaw Anthony Kay to struggle considering he's saddled with the fifth-highest xERA in baseball among the 100 pitchers with at least 60 innings this year.
I'm fading Chicago White Sox lefty Anthony Kay on Thursday. He's sporting the fifth-highest xERA among the 100 pitchers with at least 60 innings, after all. Plus, the Atlanta Braves enter ranked eighth in wOBA against southpaws for the season and sixth in overall xwOBA across the past 14 days.
The Yankees rank Top-3 in OPS, ISO, OBP, xWOBA, and hard hit rate when facing left-handed pitching. The Red Sox have hit righties very well over the past four weeks, sitting ninth in wOBA, ninth in ISO, and fourth in batting average. Play the Over to -120.
Ranger Suarez has started four games against teams ranking Top-10 in OPS vs. left-handed pitching, allowing 13 runs and posting a 6.13 ERA during those games. The New York Yankees lead the majors in OPS against lefties so they’re a prime candidate to cause Suarez problems. Playable to -145.
The Braves have dropped five of six while averaging just 2.8 runs per game and ranking 29th in wOBA without Ronald Acuna Jr. (hamstring), and it’s been a smoke-and-mirrors start for veteran lefty Martin Perez, and there’s serious statistical correction ahead of his .230 BABIP and 80.2% strand rate considering they’re both high-end marks about pitchers with at least 60 innings this season. San Francisco is just the offense to kick-start the regression, too. The Giants are pacing the majors in wOBA and fourth in xwOBA over the past 30 days, after all.
Our experts and prediction models are hard at work analyzing the data. Check back shortly for today's picks, or explore our Computer Picks for inspiration.
MLB picks are bet suggestions based on our computer's assessment of the game. Tons of betting data goes into a computer pick, including pitching matchups, injury reports, analytics, and even recent betting trends.
You can use the tables above to help with your bets during the MLB season. The first section includes free, computer-generated picks for daily Major League Baseball games. Baseball bettors can choose to follow the computer, fade the computer, or simply use our computer picks as one element of their betting strategy.
This page also tees up access to deeper betting trends. For example, if a club's run line is favored, you can check their ATS trends, potentially opening up some quality underdog bets.
If you're ready to get started with MLB betting, visit our dedicated page highlighting the best MLB betting sites.
This is the most common and easiest wager for a bettor to make when it comes to MLB picks. Basically, to win an MLB moneyline pick, you just have to choose which team will win the game.
It's simple: if you bet the White Sox moneyline over the Red Sox and Chicago wins, you win your bet.
The run line is another name for a point spread that you may be more familiar with in NBA and NFL betting. A point spread varies in the NFL and NBA from as little as 0.5 points up to double-digit spreads. A baseball run line is almost always a 1.5-point spread.
The favorite will be -1.5 while the underdog will be +1.5. At the end of the game, if you take away 1.5 runs from the favorite or add 1.5 runs to the underdog and they end up winning the game, you win your MLB pick against the spread.
Another common wager is to bet on the total in baseball, which is a bet on the total runs scored in the baseball game. You are simply choosing whether the final score will be Over or Under that total. Betting the Over/Under on a matchup is a great way to get started in MLB score predictions.
A new and emerging MLB betting market is the NRFI/YRFI bet. These are quick-hitters in which you make a wager on the O/U total of the first inning, typically set at 0.5 runs. Thus, the bet is coined as No Run First Inning or Yes Run First Inning. No need to wait a couple of hours to cash a bet when it could be done in 20 minutes or less.
The above options, moneyline, run line, and Over/Under, can also be placed on the first five innings of a game rather than the full game. Many experienced bettors will use this approach because, typically, this will take bullpens out of the equation and make your job researching the game easier. After all, you can just focus on the starting pitchers.
If you want to combine multiple games into one mega wager, you may consider making a parlay bet. A parlay is when you pick two or more MLB games on one single betting ticket, which will increase the payout of your bet.
But it also comes with more risk, as each of those MLB picks must hit for your ticket to pay out. Our parlay calculator is a great tool to find out what your potential payout would be.
If you're looking for more MLB picks content, check out our consensus picks and prop bets pages to get your fix. While you're at it, head over to our MLB promos page to get the best bang for your buck.
Player props are a great way to hone in on an individual matchup for a game. These types of wagers will be individualized for a player: Will Shohei Ohtani hit a home run? Will Gerrit Cole get seven strikeouts? Will Paul Skenes allow two earned runs?
You simply choose whether this outcome will happen or not. Keeping up to date on daily pitching matchups and batters on a hot streak can give you a huge boost when placing player prop bets.
Lastly, prior to the season and even throughout the season, you can place futures bets on all the long-term awards and outcomes. You can lock in an MLB pick on who will win their division, which squad will win the World Series, or even who will win the Rookie of the Year, MVP, or Cy Young.
