Expert MLS moneyline picks
FC Cincinnati vs New England Revolution pick: Cincinnati
Consecutive 3-0 defeats for New England have the Revolution going the wrong direction. Cincinnati showed they can win without Evander this weekend, and returning home, they'll get the job done as they hang onto the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Columbus Crew vs Charlotte FC pick: Draw
Charlotte have lost just once in their last 10 matches, and have done well on the road this season. However, they've never won in four visits to Columbus, and the Crew are playing quite well at the moment with nine points from their last four outings.
D.C. United vs New York Red Bulls pick: NYRB
I'm not entirely sure why DC United are holding a probability north of 50%, but I'm sure going to enjoy the value on the Red Bulls. They've won three of their last four and will pick up three key points over a DC United side coming off a 4-0 defeat which dealt a massive blow to their playoff hopes.
Inter Miami CF vs New York City FC pick: Inter Miami
The first of three non-plays this week, Inter Miami's probability means we're staying away. That said, I can't justify backing a result where they don't hand NYCFC their eighth defeat in 13 matches. The Herons looked lethal against DC United, and they'll defeat a thin, injured visiting side.
CF Montreal vs Atlanta United FC pick: Draw
Montreal has suffered some painful collapses this season, perhaps none more than their late capitulation Saturday against Toronto. The two bottom teams in the Eastern Conference have little left to play for but pride at this point, but I can't trust either one to get a victory — which makes the draw probability quite appealing.
Toronto FC vs Orlando City SC pick: Toronto
Speaking of Toronto, their late comeback was spurred by the return of Djordje Mihailovic and ended a three-match losing skid. Orlando also broke a three-match run of defeats with a victory, but are facing a TFC side that's only lost twice at home all season.
Chicago Fire vs Philadelphia Union pick: Philadelphia
The Fire responded to going down to 10 men by rallying to beat NYCFC at the weekend, but they now could be without Robin Lod in the midfield along with Dje D'Avilla's suspension. Taking on this Philly side without being at full strength is a tall task, and I'm backing the visitors who enter on a league-record run of 35 points from 13 matches.
FC Dallas vs Seattle Sounders FC pick: Draw
Dallas fell in stoppage time to Charlotte for their first defeat in six matches, and now return home trying to end a six-match winless streak against the Sounders. It won't happen here, though, with Seattle getting a result to push their unbeaten run to 10 straight.
Nashville SC vs Sporting Kansas City pick: Nashville
This is without a doubt a no-play at this probability. That said, Nashville are the side to back if you're going to use this as a combo piece. Sporting has been improved of late, but won't be a match for a Nashville side that's won their last three by an aggregate of 9-1 and is in fine form.
St. Louis CITY SC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC pick: St. Louis CITY
This is a massive battle for first place in the Western Conference. Tristan Blackmon's suspension adds to the mounting injury woes for Vancouver, which now includes Thomas Muller. They won't have enough to take points off a St. Louis side that's taken 30 of a possible 42 points at home and has won five straight matches as part of a 20-match unbeaten run.
Colorado Rapids vs Minnesota United FC pick: Colorado
Not sure why Colorado's probability is south of 50%, but we won't ask questions. We just say thank you and fade a Minnesota side that has now lost five of six and will continue that poor run of form at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, where the Rapids have taken 29 of a possible 42 points this season.
Real Salt Lake vs San Jose Earthquakes pick: San Jose
Another spot where I simply say thank you and run: I'm backing San Jose to win on the road at a tremendous value. RSL have lost five of six and lack creativity in the final third, while San Jose are unbeaten in seven and have taken more away points than any side in the Western Conference this season.
LA Galaxy vs Portland Timbers pick: LA Galaxy
The Galaxy got thumped 6-2 by St. Louis this weekend, who scored twice in the opening minutes and ran away with it. That said, Portland just blew a 3-1 lead at Sporting KC and have taken just two points in their last five matches. Their injury list continues to hinder them, and they're one of the worst road teams in the league. I'm backing the home side here.
LAFC vs Austin FC pick: LAFC
This is the last of our three no-play picks for the week, as I can't back LAFC at this juice. They looked much sharper under interim manager Xavi Tamarit, while Austin’s lack of depth could prove costly on the road with little time to recover from a 4-1 loss to Nashville.
San Diego FC vs Houston Dynamo pick: Draw
This is a matchup of two teams who can't win and are struggling down the stretch. Houston barely scraped out a draw against Minnesota, while San Diego returns home after being punked by the Red Bulls in search of their first win in eight matches. I don't trust either side to actually win, so the draw is the play.
