Rangers vs Penguins picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

The New York Rangers put on a much better performance in Game 2. This young group has gotten right back into the series and they will face a tough challenge as they head to Pittsburgh for the next two games of the series.

The Penguins have to be happy that they were able to come away with the series tied before heading back home, as it is clear that the Rangers have the edge in goaltending since the Pens are now down to their third-string netminder, Louis Domingue.

Domingue did not have the best performance in his first career playoff start, allowing five goals on a total of 40 shots.

Igor Shesterkin has been incredible for the Rangers in the first two games of this series and it is quite obvious that he is the difference maker between the two teams. Through the first two games, Shesterkin has a .952 save percentage and a 2.17 GAA. In the two games that were played in Pittsburgh during the regular season, Shesterkin was stellar, only allowing three goals on a combined 50 shots.

The Rangers' offense showed up in Game 2 and I think Igor will backstop them to a victory tonight.

Prediction: Rangers moneyline (-120 at DraftKings)

Over/Under analysis

A lot of people were interested to see how Domingue would perform for the Pens and even though he may have not looked his best, he needed a game to settle into this series. Despite the first two games hitting the over, both of these teams were in the top five for defensive proficiency during the regular season.

Shesterkin has looked as incredible as he did in the regular season, but the Rangers aren’t helping him out as much as they could be considering the fact that Shesterkin has already faced 124 shots in this series. Game 2 featured a lot of offense as both teams were able to put up at least 40 shots on goal and I think they will both try to tighten up defensively.

The Rangers will attempt to weather the storm of the Pens playing in from of their home crowd, and Domingue should fare better in Game 3 as well.

Prediction: Under 6 (-120 at DraftKings)

Best bet

The Rangers were the second-best team in the league defensively in the regular season, while the Penguins ranked fifth. In Game 1, we saw the Penguins on their heels a bit as the Rangers were feeding off the energy of their home crowd and the same thing should happen in tonight's game, but in favor of Pittsburgh.

The Penguins are definitely going to bring it to the Rangers in the opening twenty minutes, but Shesterkin should continue to shut them down.

Pick: Under 1.5 First Period (+100 at DraftKings)
