Oilers vs Rangers prediction

Oilers vs Rangers Best bet: Under 5.5 (+115)

The Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers have both trended to the Under, and they’re both off to slow offensive starts while playing excellent defense.

There have only been 15 total goals in New York’s four games, and the Rangers have played to the Under in 26 of their last 42 at home (+8.30 Units / 18% ROI).

It’s a similar story for Edmonton. There have only been 10 goals in the Oilers' two games, and they’ve played to the Under in 16 of their last 24 away contests.

The early underlying numbers for Edmonton impress, too. The Oilers have driven 5-on-5 possession with a 55.4 Corsi For percentage while limiting opponents to a league-low 1.41 expected goals per 60 minutes.

New York has also received elite goaltending from No. 1 Igor Shesterkin. He’s only allowed two goals through three starts and sports a tidy .976 save percentage with a league-high 6.51 goals saved above expected.

Look for the Oilers to limit the Rangers, while Shesterkin holds New York in the game tonight.

Oilers vs Rangers same-game parlay

With the one-two punch of Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid being supported early by secondary scoring, the Oilers are a tough team to top. As noted, Edmonton has excelled at 5-on-5, and New York failed its first real test of the season and lost 1-0 to the Washington Capitals on Sunday.

Edmonton has bumped Andrew Mangiapane to the No. 1 line with McDavid and Draisaitl, so the first-year Oiler is in a prime position to show off.

While Mangiapane’s shot volume has declined considerably in consecutive seasons, and he’s only recorded two shots through the first two games, he’ll have plenty of open space and shooting opportunities skating with the pair of superstars.
