The revamped Chicago Sky are off to a strong start, with Kamilla Cardoso growing into a larger leadership role as they lean on her to set the tone against the Valkyries.

Two undefeated teams square off on Wednesday as the new-look Chicago Sky travel to Ballhalla to face the Golden State Valkyries.

Despite a number of key injuries, the visiting team earned a comfortable victory in the opener, and my Sky vs. Valkyries predictions call for Chicago to cover the spread as road underdogs thanks to another big game from Kamilla Cardoso and a balanced attack on both ends of the court.

Sky vs Valkyries prediction

Sky vs Valkyries best bet: Sky +5.5 (-110)

The Golden State Valkyries have lived by the three this season, with a league-high 49.6% of their shot attempts coming from beyond the arc. The team is shooting a torrid 40% from long distance, but the Valkyries may see some regression from deep.

They shot 32.5% from three-point range last season (third-worst) and didn’t add any lethal shooters in the offseason.

The Chicago Sky rank seventh in opponent three-point percentage and leads the WNBA in team rebounds and fewest opponent rebounds.

Chicago can limit Golden State’s second-chance opportunities on kickouts by controlling the glass, and Chicago’s balanced offensive attack and third-ranked defense can keep them competitive.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Chicago Sky lead the WNBA in rebound percentage at 62.2%, nearly six percent higher than the Indiana Fever’s 56.5%.

Sky vs Valkyries same-game parlay

The Sky and Valkyries have hit the Over in all three of their respective games this season, but neither team has faced a stiff defensive test.

Chicago and Golden State each rank in the top-8 in defensive rating, and Golden State sports the slowest pace. Chicago likes to control the boards and work the ball inside, and Golden State is methodical in its passing and shot selection. Expect a slow, physical contest and a lower-scoring affair.

Kamilla Cardoso delivered a 22-point, 14-rebound double-double in the opener, picking up where she left off from her rookie campaign. No longer sharing the court with Angel Reese, Cardoso is the unquestioned No. 1 in the frontcourt.

In 14 games without Reese last season, Cardoso averaged 13.8 points and 10.2 boards, collecting seven double-doubles.

Sky vs Valkyries first basket scorer: Rickea Jackson (+500)

The 6’7 Cardoso won the opening tip in Chicago’s opener against Portland, and she should win it against the 6’2 Kiah Stokes tonight. Stokes has lost two straight tips, both against opposing centers 6’6 or taller.

Chicago will control the opening possession, and I’ll take Rickea Jackson to get the first bucket. Cardoso attempted the first shot in the opener, but she only took one more shot (15) than Jackson in that game.

Both players should see their fair share of looks, with Jackson getting the nod against Golden State.

Sky vs Valkyries odds

  • Spread: Chicago +5.5 | Golden State -5.5
  • Moneyline: Chicago +190 | Golden State -230
  • Over/Under: Over 166.5 | Under 166.5
