The Arizona Coyotes will look to snap a rough seven-game losing streak tonight as they host the Carolina Hurricanes, who are on the second game of a three-game road trip that will conclude tomorrow night in Vegas.
Considering how equally bad the Arizona offense and defense have been over the last three weeks, even if Carolina goes with its backup goalie tonight, I still like the Canes to win comfortably vs. the Yotes and likely Karel Vejmelka.
I break down the NHL odds and offer my free NHL picks for Hurricanes vs. Coyotes for Friday, February 16.

Hurricanes vs Coyotes predictions
There are a few ways to bet a game you think will be one-sided, but let’s take a look at how the Carolina Hurricanes can win tonight by multiple goals while holding the Arizona Coyotes Under their team total.
Arizona’s current seven-game losing streak has them with the No. 31 offense and the No. 32 defense in hockey in terms of GAA and shots allowed. The Yotes are allowing 4.43 goals per game and 38 shots. Now they have to face a Carolina team that has been one of the best possession, Corsi%, and Fenwick% teams in hockey over the last three years.
Carolina outshot the Yotes 38-11 just five games ago and now the home side will have to start backup goalie Karel Vejmelka after starter Connor Ingram hit the shelf this week.
Vejmelka is 0-5 with a 4.39 GAA and a .885 SV% since January 1 and across his last five starts, Arizona has lost 5-3, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2, 4-1, and 5-2. This is arguably the worst matchup for a struggling Arizona team, as Carolina allows the fewest high-danger chances at 5-on-5. For a team that needs a break, this is not the opponent that is going to give them any.
Looking back on that 3-1 Carolina win two weeks ago, it was 1-1 late in the third before the Canes scored two goals over the final 60 seconds to cover the puck line. However, the box score was a little misleading as Arizona had just 11 shots and 1.2 expected goals. It was all Carolina despite the even score late into the game.
The Canes do play tomorrow in Vegas to wrap up their three-game road trip, which means No.1 Pyotr Kochetkov could play tomorrow. But I have faith in backup Spencer Martin, who beat the Bruins in Boston, 3-2, in his Carolina debut. The Canes can keep Arizona’s shots on nets under 20 tonight, which is why only one Arizona skater has a SOG total above 1.5.
With the home side struggling to score and the issues with Vejmelka, I have to hit the puck line at +123 tonight. I love the Arizona team total Under 2.5, but the plus-money PL play should return better value. The Canes have been getting shorter on the moneyline over the day.
My best bet: Hurricanes -1.5 (+123 at BetRivers)
Hurricanes vs Coyotes same-game parlay
I'm boosting up Martin Necas' shot total to four here as this is a number he's hit in seven of his last nine games. The Yotes are giving up more shots than anyone right now and the Carolina forward had four SOG and nine shot attempts in the January meeting.
The visitors could flirt with five goals tonight with the goaltending issues of the home side. They were held to just three goals in the recent meeting but finished that game with well over 4.0 expected goals thanks to a great performance by Arizona goalie Connor Ingram, who is unavailable tonight.
The secondary scoring will be on display tonight for the Canes, who hopefully lead early and often tonight.

Hurricanes vs Coyotes moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The Canes opened at -200 and hit as long as -190 before dropping to -225 today at noon. That movement was all before any goalie announcement but Arizona will not have Ingram tonight, that we do know.
"It should not be long, 7-10 days," Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said regarding the status of Ingram after the 3-1 loss to Minnesota on Wednesday. "They told me after the period he was not going out, and they just told me about a week, so we'll see."
That leaves it to Vejmelka, who is 0-5 SU over his last seven games and 6-1 to the Over across his last seven starts.
Carolina could go with backup Spencer Martin thanks to a game in Vegas tomorrow, but because of such a great team defensive structure from Rod Brind A’mour’s squad, Martin is not much of a downgrade at all if he does get the crease.
If Martin does start, Arizona might see some money that could move the ML back to longer than -200, but I still favor the Canes heavily tonight.
There is just nothing to like about the Arizona game right now. This is a terrible matchup vs. a team that gives up next to zero chances at 5-on-5, and the return of Andrei Svechnikov gives the Canes serious depth with their top nine skaters. The Hurricanes are also one of four teams with a power play at 30% or better since January 1. If Carolina wins 6-0, I would not be surprised.
One player I’m targeting in props is Necas. He is the heaviest shooter on this roster, and although he skates on the second line and second PP, he is the trigger man on both and is 7-2 to the Over on his 2.5 SOG total since returning to the lineup. All seven of those Overs came with efforts of 4+ shots. His Over 2.5 SOG could be a sweatless winner and one worth a possible ladder.
The Over 6 is hard to get behind thanks to an Arizona offense that has scored just 16 goals over its seven-game losing streak. Some books have moved from the opening Over 6 at -120 to 6.5, but I think there will be plenty of Under money coming in if that 6.5 is there for long.
The best-case scenario for an Under move is to wait for Martin possibly to get confirmed, wait for the public to bet the Over on the only game on the board, then hit the Under 6.5 right before puck-drop. This is hopefully going to be a one-sided game in Carolina's favor.
