We’ve got 13 games on the NHL betting slate tonight, including an Original Six matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins.

John Tavares has picked up right where he left off last season, and has been shooting at an elite rate. I expect that to continue tonight against a Bruins team that has been susceptible to giving up lofty shot totals.

Bruins vs Maple Leafs prediction

Bruins vs Maple Leafs Best bet: John Tavares Over 2.5 shots (-135)

It’s time to renew the rivalry as the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Boston Bruins at Scotiabank Arena.

The Buds have won the last three meetings between the two teams, outscoring the Bruins 15-8, while averaging 28.3 shots per game.

That's the market I’m eyeing tonight as the Bruins continue to allow lofty shot totals against them this season as they continue to retool on the fly.

Despite being on a five game winning streak, the Bruins have allowed an average of 31.8 shots against in those games

The market I like most for the Leafs is John Tavares’ shot prop which is set at just 2.5 shots.

The 35-year old is off to a terrific start this season with seven goals and 18 points through the Leafs’ first 14 games of the season.

He’s also been shooting at a consistently high rate, averaging 3.6 shots per game, going over the posted total of 2.5 shots in seven of his last eight games.

Additionally, Tavares and his new linemates were given mainly offensive zone duties in their last game against Utah, starting 66% of their shifts in the O-zone. This allowed them to generate offense at a 92% xGF rate, while outshooting the Mammoth 5-0 in just 8:43 of 5-on-5.

Bruins vs Maple Leafs same-game parlay

I’ll add Over 3.5 goals for the Leafs to my SGP. They’re averaging five goals in their last three games against the Bruins. Toronto has also gone over this total in five of their last six games.

For the final leg of my SGP I’ll add Leafs in the 3rd period puck line (-0.5). Toronto has been a 3rd period team this season outscoring their opponents 25-15 in the final frame of games this year.

Meanwhile, the Bruins rank 30th in goals allowed in the third (23).

Bruins vs Maple Leafs SGP

  • Leafs Over 3.5 goals
  • John Tavares Over 2.5 shots
  • Leafs third period puck line
