The New Jersey Devils are sizeable 59% favorites over the 11-2-2 Edmonton Oilers, who own a perfect 7-0-0 record on the road.
Regardless of which team comes out on top, I am expecting a healthy dose of offense and have captain Nico Hischier at the forefront of my Oilers vs. Devils predictions.
Let's dive deeper into my NHL picks for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Oilers vs Devils prediction: Over 6.5
I see value on the Over to 51%.
The New Jersey Devils have faced five Top-10 offenses this season, and each game featured goals in bulk.
At least seven goals were scored in all five matchups, with an eight and a nine mixed in.
While Connor Hellebuyck only started one of those games, it’s still a trend I can buy into in this spot.
The Edmonton Oilers are averaging 4.2 goals per game and scoring at a league-high 16.3% clip. Keeping them to two or less is extremely difficult, and I trust New Jersey’s Top-10 offense to cause problems for Tristan Jarry.

Oilers vs Devils combo
The Devils and Oilers have combined to score 7.63 goals per game this season, and I’m expecting plenty of offense in this one.
Nico Hischier centers a line with a healthy 56.3 xGF% share at 5-on-5, and is tied for the team-lead in power play points.
Evan Bouchard has assisted in 13 of 15 games for the Oilers and been completely unfazed in difficult matchups. He has assists in six of seven games against teams ranking Top-10 in either shot suppression, goal suppression, or both.
Oilers vs Devils combo
- Over 6.5
- Nico Hischier Over 0.5 points
- Evan Bouchard Over 0.5 assists
TOP PICK
Oilers vs Devils player prop: Nico Hischier Over 0.5 points
Hischier is in play for a point to 60%.
Jarry is coming off back-to-back shutouts but still grades out poorly in Goals Saved Above Expected, sitting at -2.5 GSAx through seven games. He is not a good goaltender, and remains prone to blowups.
The Devils have a Top-10 scoring offense and are well-rested, having last played Friday in Vegas. This is a spot where they should produce, and I expect Hischier to get in on the fun.
Hischier has points in six of his last eight games against Edmonton, and produced 20 points over his past 16 appearances in which New Jersey was 60% favorites or more.
Oilers vs Devils goal scorer: Timo Meier
Playable to 30%.
Timo Meier is tied for 15th in shots on goal but has only scored once. Outside of defenseman Matthew Schaefer, who has four goals, every other player in the Top-15 has at least five.
Meier scores more on volume than quality finishing but, even so, his current conversion rate of 2% is miles below any reasonable output.
Jarry ranks 47th among 55 eligible netminders in Goals Saved Above Expected per 60 since the beginning of last season. He could be the elixir to Meier’s finishing woes.
