The San Francisco 49ers suffered their first defeat this season in Week 7, but their overall dominance still has them as the Super Bowl favorites (+580). We have the possible beginning of a three-team race at the top, with the Buffalo Bills not far behind the Niners (+700), and the Kansas City Chiefs also hovering (+900) despite taking their first loss this past week, too.

The defending champion Seattle Seahawks (+1000) round out the top five along with the preseason favorite Los Angeles Rams (+1050), and they both rebounded with Week 7 wins. The Seahawks also just upgraded their offensive line after acquiring Quenton Nelson.

Popular types of Super Bowl bets

Betting on the Super Bowl goes beyond picking a winner. To maximize your strategy, you should understand the three primary markets:

Super Bowl betting history and trends

Historically, the favorite has won over 64% of the time.

Out of 59 Super Bowls with a designated favorite, the favorite has won 38 times, and the underdog has won 21.

Underdogs are 29–29–2 against the spread. The underdog covers or pushes almost exactly 50% of the time.

While the all-time stats are balanced, recent history has seen a significant shift toward the underdog. Underdogs have covered the spread in 16 of the last 24 Super Bowls.

Until Super Bowl 60, underdogs had covered in five consecutive Super Bowls, which was the longest such streak in the game's history.
