What happened in the last Super Bowl?

While Super Bowl MVP honors typically go to a quarterback, neither signal-caller was particularly worthy this year. Some were holding out for Jason Myers to become the first kicker to ever receive the award, but Kenneth Walker III won.

KWIII didn't find paydirt, but the RB rumbled for 135 yards on 27 carries and added another 26 yards on two catches.

He set up Myers for easy makes and became the first back since 1997 to win Super Bowl MVP.

How to read Super Bowl MVP odds

When learning how to bet on the Super Bowl, bettors must first understand how the odds are displayed and how to read them. The Super Bowl MVP odds are displayed in a list format with corresponding odds for each player considered an MVP candidate. The odds reflect the implied probability that the player will win MVP.

Some sportsbooks will have a very long and detailed list with plenty of players available. Other books will list only the skill positions and key defensive contributors, adding a "field" or "other" option that includes any player not officially listed.

Most sportsbooks in North America will list Super Bowl MVP odds in American format:

  • Sam Darnold +250
  • Drake Maye +280

This means a $100 bet on Darnold will result in $250 of profit if he wins, or a $100 bet on Maye will result in $280 if he wins. Use our odds converter to switch American odds to decimal or fractional and to see how much you could win using different odds.

Super Bowl MVP betting history

A Super Bowl MVP has been named in all 60 championship games, going back to 1967 when Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr was named the very first Super Bowl Most Valuable Player.

Starr is one of the 34 quarterbacks to be named Super Bowl MVP. Running backs have won it nine times, wide receivers have won it eight times, and a defensive player has been named MVP five times. Only once has a special teams player won the award.

Betting on the Super Bowl MVP odds was made popular in the late 1990s, as online sports betting began to boom, but it's only been allowed in regulated land-based sportsbooks (such as Las Vegas/Nevada) since 2016.
