Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta has caught just four passes for 51 yards since his Oct. 21 comments about a contract extension, adding fuel to growing speculation about a potential trade involving the star.
With the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos emerging as the primary suitors on Kalshi, let's dive into the Sam LaPorta next team odds.
- LaPorta is likely to stay in Detroit
- LaPorta could fill the Travis Kelce void in Kansas City when he retires
- Low volume trade, markets could swing in a hurry

Why are the Lions trading Sam LaPorta?
Sam LaPorta isn't happy, and contract negotiations are only making things worse in Detroit.
One of the best pass-catching tight ends in football has already made it clear that he's open to playing elsewhere if the Lions aren't willing to pay him. If that isn't a message to Detroit's front office, I don't know what is.
To make matters worse, he's been practically invisible in the offense for two straight weeks, and it's hard to believe that's just a coincidence.
Things need to go from bad to worse before the Lions trade him, but Detroit would likely get a haul if Brad Holmes picks up the phone.
Sam LaPorta next team odds analysis
Kansas City Chiefs | 'Yes' 5¢
Chalk me up as someone who would absolutely love to see a Patrick Mahomes-Sam LaPorta connection in Kansas City.
With the Chiefs' championship window narrowing, a two-tight-end set featuring LaPorta and Travis Kelce would be appointment television.
And if Kansas City could lock LaPorta up long-term, that window would swing right back open. If one team is willing to go all-in, it's the Chiefs, who should do everything in their power to maximize the Mahomes era and chase another Super Bowl.
The Chiefs have the assets to make a deal happen, too. Cornerback Kristian Fulton has been floated as a potential trade piece, and the fit makes plenty of sense in Detroit.
Fulton is on a one-year deal; moving him would free up cap space for Kansas City, and he'd immediately step into a starting role in Detroit. Of course, the deal would also require a 2027 first-rounder.
At just five cents, I'd gladly buy some shares in the Chiefs.
Denver Broncos | 'Yes' 6¢
My least favorite destination for LaPorta would be the Denver Broncos, but they are in the mix nonetheless.
The Lions' secondary is ranked 21st in the NFL, per PFF, and the Broncos could build a package around 2025 first-round corner Jahdae Barron without losing much in depth. Add in a 2027 first-round pick, and Lions GM Holmes might not be able to say no.
With Evan Engram already in the fold, LaPorta would give the Broncos two big, highly athletic pass-catchers. Alongside Jaylen Waddle and Courtland Sutton, Bo Nix would have all the weapons he needs for a deep playoff run.
Sam LaPorta next team odds prediction
Detroit Lions
If the Lions were to trade their star pass-catching tight end, you better believe the return would be significant and could fill gaps on a struggling defense.
Detroit's secondary could certainly use some help, as its 276 yards through the air per game is the worst in the NFL. In terms of draft capital, LaPorta would likely fetch at least a first-rounder (remember, Jeffrey Simmons just went for two).
All that being said, it's highly unlikely the Lions deal LaPorta, as they're looking to be buyers come the Nov. 10 trade deadline. Holmes won't be looking to downgrade his roster for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
It's why he's still favored to re-sign with the Lions. Brock Wright and Tyler Conklin would be the next men up, and that doesn't inspire much confidence.
However, we've already seen some big names move (Quenton Nelson, Simmons), and if he's as truly unhappy as he sounds, take a flier on the Chiefs to make the all-in move.
The Lions are playable to 60%.
Strategic considerations for traders
- Analysis: LaPorta clearly wants to stay in Detroit; it would take a massive haul for Detroit to move him
- Analysis: The Chiefs are absolutely the next in line and have the assets and motivation to get a deal made
- Analysis: Treat the Broncos as an extreme long shot. They'd have to give up too much for an offense that doesn't highlight pass-catching tight ends
