Our NFL expert is calling for the Vikings to capitalize on the shorthanded Packers in their season opener at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings will begin the 2026 NFL season with a classic NFC North bout at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 13, and the Vikings are a short 1.5-point home favorite.

My early Packers vs. Vikings predictions and NFL picks call for Minnesota to cover with the final score coming in Under the number in Week 1.

Early Packers vs Vikings spread pick: Vikings -1.5

Kalshi probability: 52%

The Minnesota Vikings blitzed at the highest clip in the NFL last season, and the Green Bay Packers have offensive line concerns with starters Aaron Banks (knee) and Zach Bako-Bewele (knee) both taking limited reps throughout training camp and missing each preseason game.

It’s a major concern because Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love dipped to a pedestrian 41.6% completion percentage for 5.0 yards per target when pressured last season.

Add the Packers missing key starters Josh Jacobs (Reserve-CEL) and Micah Parsons (knee), and Green Bay is incredibly shorthanded in Week 1.

I’m also expecting the Minnesota offense to improve right out of the gate in 2026.

Quarterback Kyler Murray has a top-tier receiver corps at his disposal for the first time of his career, and his 67.1% career completion percentage and mobility will thrive in head coach Kevin O'Connell’s offense.

Early Packers vs Vikings total pick: Under 45.5

Kalshi probability: 49%

This total has crept up to 46.5 at shops, so considering it was as low as 44.5 earlier this summer, this is a fair number to target.

The Green Bay receiving corps lacks the depth of past seasons, and both the passing attack and ground game could be in trouble given the noted offensive line concerns

The Under hitting in each Packers-Vikings tilt last year at lower totals (41.5 and 36.5) also has my attention.

I expect Minnesota to look to establish the run in Murray’s first start, which will keep the clock churning and limit the offensive possessions and plays to pile up points for both teams.
