Week 2 of preseason NFL football continues Saturday afternoon in Detroit with the Miami Dolphins taking on the Detroit Lions.
It is unlikely we will see any starters on either side with these two teams having two straight days of joint practices this week. However, there is still an edge to find here.
Here are my top Dolphins vs. Lions predictions and NFL picks for Week 2 of the preseason on Saturday, August 16.
Dolphins vs Lions prediction
Dolphins vs Lions Best bet: Lions +2 (-110)
We are unlikely to see a single starter for either team here after the ones went at each other for two straight days this week in joint practices. Instead, we should see Zach Wilson against Hendon Hooker to start things off.
Both quarterbacks are likely to play the entire first half with the twos before handing things off to Quinn Ewers and Kyle Allen for the second half. This is where the Detroit Lions will have a massive advantage.
Last week, Ewers started 0/5 passing with a fumble before finishing 5/18 for 91 yards passing and was sacked twice with two lost fumbles. He played five full drives that totaled only 10 points and two turnovers. The 10 points mostly came behind the running of Ollie Gordon.
Meanwhile, Allen threw for 120 yards and two touchdowns on 7/8 passing last week. He came in late in the second quarter and led three full drives that totaled 17 points. The game was called early in the fourth quarter due to a bad injury.
If Hooker and the Lions second string does not fall too far behind to Wilson and the Miami Dolphins second string, I love the Lions to cover this spread.
I am taking the spread instead of the moneyline just in case we see a tie game that can easily happen in the preseason.
You can also look to live bet the Lions as soon as you see Ewers come in for the Dolphins if you get a good number.
