Bills vs Jets Predictions - Early Picks & Odds for Week 2

Buffalo escaped with a win over Baltimore in Week 1, but a matchup against the Jets will be less stressful for Bills backers.

The Buffalo Bills were the only AFC East team to escape the openers with a victory... and what a victory it was.

Buffalo needs to settle down after that improbable comeback — traveling to East Rutherford to face the New York Jets in Week 2 — and my early Bills vs. Jets predictions think it'll do just that.

Here are my early NFL picks for this September 14 showdown.

Bills vs Jets predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Bills vs Jets spread pick: Buffalo -7

The look-ahead line for this game back in the summer was Buffalo Bills -8.5. The spread mutated as Week 1 played out, shifting to -7.5 due to injuries in the Buffalo secondary.

It then swung again as Week 1 played out, dipping to Bills -6.5 following the New York Jets' nail-biting loss to Pittsburgh and then jumping up to a touchdown following Buffalo’s rally against the Baltimore Ravens in the night game.

I do expect a better effort from Aaron Glenn’s defense in Week 2, but Josh Allen & Co. present a much tougher test to contain, especially with a strong rushing attack.

Pittsburgh ran the ball only 20 times in Week 1. Buffalo handed off 31 times, despite trailing for most of its game with the Ravens, and finished among the more efficient ground games in the opening week.

I do see this spread climbing closer to the look-ahead line of -8.5, so I would lean Bills -7 right now.

Early Bills vs Jets total pick: Under 45.5

With regression in mind, I’m forecasting a better showing from the Jets’ defense and a return to earth for the New York offense.

Gang Green hung 32 points and almost 400 yards on the Steelers’ defense, with QB Justin Fields looking like Lamar Jackson out there. Luckily for the Bills, they just game-planned for the best dual-threat QB in the league and can apply those lessons to Fields in Week 2.

Buffalo can’t be happy with its defensive efforts on Sunday night. Baltimore worked the ball down the field with little pushback in the first three quarters, but the Bills forced a key turnover to spark the late comeback. There will be a lot of attention on Bobby Babich’s stop unit this week.

The Jets are a run-heavy scheme under new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand and ran 39 times in Week 1 — second most heading into MNF. New York will try to take air out of the football and control possession in an attempt to sideline Allen and the Bills' offense.

Buffalo is a touchdown favorite and will likely play with the lead, should the game script hold up. That means more drawn-out series and an emphasis on the run in the second half.

The Bills also have a short week ahead with a Thursday game in Week 3. That could have them playing it safe with starters if they get a big lead.

I’m leaning Under in East Rutherford this Sunday.
