Early Missouri vs Kansas spread pick: Kansas +5.5
This is the second of a two-game year-over-year series between these schools. As -5.5 home favorites, Missouri beat Kansas 42-31 last season. Mizzou laying as many points in Kansas feels wrong. These teams are about the same as when they met around this time last year.
In fact, the Tigers had 15 returning starters last season compared to 12 this year. The Jayhawks had 10 returning in 2025 and 12 this season. Both teams have different starting quarterbacks this year and lost three of their four top wide receivers.
Missouri failed to cover as -56.5 favorites in a 54-14 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff last week, whereas Kansas beat the spread as -44.5 favorites in its 51-6 victory over Long Island University. Neither win is impressive since both were FCS programs, but at least the Jayhawks covered the spread in their first game.

Early Missouri vs Kansas total pick: Under 50.5
Since both teams flipped 50 Burgers in their season openers, the total is only 50.5, and this is a nationally televised game on FOX, aka more public money; there will be more action on the Over. Plus, last year's Missouri-Kansas meeting soared Over the 50.5 total by 22.5 points.
For what it's worth, I prefer Kansas +5.5, down to +4.5. But, between recency bias, first-year starting quarterbacks and the bright lights of a primetime game, I can only lean toward the Under in this game.
