The final conference tournament championship game of a hoops-filled Saturday goes down in Las Vegas for the WAC Championship as the No. 1 seed Utah Valley Wolverines face the No. 2 seed California Baptist Lancers at 11:59 pm ET on ESPN2.

Both squads are looking for their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid, but only one will earn that honor.

Check out my Utah Valley vs. California Baptist predictions and college basketball picks for Saturday, March 14.

Utah Valley vs California Baptist prediction

Utah Valley vs California Baptist best bet: Under 138 (-110)

We have a large sample size of these teams playing each other, which indicates a low-scoring game. The three regular-season meetings averaged just 126.7 total points in regulation.

The California Baptist Lancers have a tremendous defense (28th in adjusted deficiency since February 1, per BartTorvik) but a poor offense (222nd). Dominique Daniels (23.2 ppg) is a bona fide star, but he has little help and is the only Lancer with an OBPR above +0.6.

The Utah Valley Wolverines have put the brakes on offensively, going from a top-75 tempo team over the first half of the season to outside the top 190 over the last month.

Utah Valley vs California Baptist same-game parlay

Utah Valley has been the better, more consistent team this season. The Wolverines won two of the three regular-season meetings, and the sole loss came on the road in overtime.

The Wolverines force the eighth-most turnovers per game (15.3), which is a problem for a Lancers team prone to coughing it up (12.3 turnovers per game).

California Baptist averaged 17.3 turnovers in the three regular-season meetings and has yet to prove that it can solve the puzzle that is this disruptive Wolverines defense.

Our beyond the arc SGP: Wire to Wire!

California Baptist’s offense routinely stalls after halftime, ranking 287th in second-half scoring (36.6 ppg). It also wouldn’t be surprising to see Rick Croy’s squad tighten up and slow things down in the second frame in an attempt to mitigate the turnover issues.
