Scimia's prediction: Despite several key absences, the underdog 76ers will cover the 8.5-point spread at home against the Blazers.

While the Philadelphia 76ers are dealing with major injury issues — Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey are out, and Paul George is suspended — they have played well enough at home for me to take them to cover against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Read on to see how I think bettors should approach tonight’s game in my Trail Blazers vs. 76ers predictions and free NBA picks for Sunday, March 15.

Trail Blazers vs 76ers prediction

Trail Blazers vs 76ers best bet: 76ers +8.5 (-115)

On paper, the Philadelphia 76ers have been better than the Portland Trail Blazers, rating better in both offensive and defensive efficiency. And while absences have hurt Philly, it’s still winning games at home.

The Sixers are 19-16 and have won three straight at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Portland has enough of a talent edge to win this game, but it's only gone 1-6-1 against the spread in its last eight games, and its offense has been held in check, averaging only 110.1 points over its last seven. That reduced output will make it difficult to cover a significant spread, especially on the road.

I’m taking Philly to cover in a game that will be closer than expected.

Trail Blazers vs 76ers same-game parlay

When the 76ers have found success late, it’s generally been by keeping the score down. With injury issues still limiting scoring options, I’m pairing my bet on Philadelphia to cover with the Under as a result.

The one player who can put up big numbers for the Sixers is Quentin Grimes, who has scored 23 or more points in three of his last five games.

Our "from downtown" SGP: It's Grimes' Time

The Sixers are riding a three-game home winning streak, and while it would be an upset for them to win tonight, it’s a reasonable value pick for a long-shot SGP.

If Philadelphia does hold on to win, it’ll be due to a big game from Grimes, and I’m taking him to hit the Over on his prop totals for both rebounds and assists by picking up at least five of each.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
