Expert NBA moneyline picks: Oct. 27

Nets vs Celtics (7:30 p.m. ET): Celtics Celtics

It's not often you find a significant edge on a moneyline favorite trading at 81%, but that's exactly what we have with the Celtics.

I make Boston closer to an 89% favorite against the Brooklyn Nets, creating a substantial edge over the market price.

How does Brooklyn generate offensive advantages against this Celtics defense?

Egor Demin will face relentless point-of-attack pressure from a defense that can switch actions without sacrificing quality. Meanwhile, Julius Randle will have few opportunities around the rim with Mitchell Robinson and Neemias Queta protecting the paint.

Boston is already a heavy favorite at 81%, but my projections suggest that number should be even higher.

Kings vs Spurs (8 p.m. ET): Spurs Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs offer a small edge at 88%, as I price them closer to 90% favorites against the Kings.

Victor Wembanyama is an impactful defender every night, but this matchup is particularly favorable for him against a Sacramento offense that uses Domantas Sabonis as a dribble-handoff hub.

Because Sabonis isn't a perimeter shooting threat, Wembanyama can sag off him to disrupt passing lanes while roaming as a shot blocker. That creates problems for Sacramento's offense and makes it more difficult for Darius Acuff Jr. to attack the rim.

It's a steep price, but Wembanyama's impact in this specific matchup plays a major role in my projections.

Pistons vs Knicks (8 p.m. ET): Knicks Knicks

The Jalen Duren injury looms large for the Detroit Pistons in this matchup, as his presence would be especially valuable against Karl-Anthony Towns. His absence was less impactful in the projections against Adem Bona and the Philadelphia 76ers, but facing Towns makes it a much bigger concern.

Ausar Thompson's questionable tag is another significant factor, particularly given his matchup with Jalen Brunson. If Thompson sits, the Pistons lose a point-of-attack defender who can pressure Brunson and make life difficult for him offensively.

I have the Knicks holding an edge at 60%, even with Thompson projected to play slightly reduced minutes. For that reason, I'm rocking with New York in this matchup. If Thompson is ruled out, the Knicks' advantage should only grow.

Trail Blazers vs Lakers (11 p.m. ET): Blazers Trail Blazers

Luka Doncic is coming off a 52-point performance against the Utah Jazz, but this matchup will present a much tougher challenge with Toumani Camara and Jrue Holiday serving as his primary defenders.

The Trail Blazers have multiple options to throw at Doncic defensively, and Donovan Clingan should be able to stay near the basket and help close off driving lanes. Walker Kessler's limited shooting ability makes it easier for Portland to keep its rim protection in place without having to worry as much about him stretching the floor.

The Trail Blazers might be one of the most underrated teams in the NBA to start the season, and I'll gladly back them as 42% underdogs against the Lakers.

Today's NBA moneyline combo

Polymarket

Celtics Celtics

Knicks Knicks

Blazers Trail Blazers

With only four games on the slate, I'll explain why I left the Spurs out of my combo and opted for the other three teams instead.

While the Spurs have the highest probability of winning their game, they also offer the smallest probability gap, which is what matters most in sports trading.

I'm not rushing to add an 88% favorite to my combo when it does little to improve the payout and is already trading close to its fair value.
