Robert Thomas is one of the NHL's best playmakers and shots on goal are coming few and far between.
My Canadiens vs. Blues prediction is that Thomas will get the better of Montreal's top line sans Nick Suzuki, and his production will show up in the assist category.
Let's dive deeper into my NHL picks for Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Canadiens vs Blues prediction: Under 6.5
I’m playing the Under to 59%.
The St. Louis Blues are likely to start Joel Hofer, who owns a strong .917 save percentage and has stopped +2.7 Goals Above Expected.
The Montreal Canadiens scored five non-empty net goals and generated just 49 shots over two games without Nick Suzuki. They've predictably taken a step back offensively since their star two-way center went down.
Luckily for them, they can rely on strong netminding from Jacob Fowler to help compensate. He's sporting a .924 SV% and sits sixth in GSAx.
Expect this game to be played close, and the goaltenders to come through when needed. If only one projected starter gets the nod, I'd play this to 56%.

Canadiens vs Blues combo
I’m combining the Blues on the moneyline with Robert Thomas to notch a helper and Jimmy Snuggerud to pick up a point.
This is a great schedule spot for the Blues, who are working on two days of rest and last traveled on Oct. 17. The absence of Suzuki is also a huge boost to their chances.
Thomas picked up a helper in 60% of St. Louis’ home wins last year, and he's 3-for-3 in that department to start this season.
Snuggerud plays with Thomas at 5-on-5 and on the power play, giving us great correlation here.
Canadiens vs Blues combo
- Blues moneyline
- Robert Thomas Over 0.5 assists
- Jimmy Snuggerud Over 0.5 points
TOP PICK
Canadiens vs Blues player prop: Robert Thomas Over 0.5 assists
I like Thomas to find the scoresheet by way of an assist. This is playable to 54%.
St. Louis’ top center is likely to draw plenty of time against Montreal’s top line, which is allowing xG at a much higher clip without Suzuki.
He also skates on the No. 1 power play, and the Canadiens are spending more shorthanded time per game than any other team.
Beyond that, Thomas ranks last among all Blues forwards in shots on goal per 60. Creating opportunities for others is his primary focus, and he’s skating with two of the most efficient shot-generators on the team.
Canadiens vs Blues goal scorer: Jimmy Snuggerud
Snuggerud leads the Blues in shot attempts at full strength and he gets a nice, high-pace matchup against Montreal’s top line.
He trails only Thomas in power-play time on ice this season and should receive plenty of opportunities to go to work against a Canadiens team leading the league in shorthanded time per outing.
If Thomas gets his helper, there’s a real chance it comes on a goal from Snuggerud, who has scored five times over his last seven games.
