Braves vs Astros Game 2 props

The Braves came out hot in the first game of the World Series, beating up Framber Valdez and scoring five runs in the first three innings. There’s a good chance that happens again tonight against Jose Urquidy, who has just one postseason start this year.

Urquidy went 1 2-3 innings against the Red Sox on October 18, laboring through 57 pitches to allow six runs on five hits with two walks, one strikeout, and a home run.

In the last 30 days, Urquidy had a 5.55 xFIP with a 17.2 percent strikeout percentage. He’s not a guy that will induce a heavy amount of grounders and while he limits line drives, he will allow plenty of fly balls — that will sometimes sneak over the fence.

The Braves lineup has hit 27 percent line drives against righties in the last 30 days. However, they’ve also struck out 26.7 percent of the time in that same time frame. But with Urquidy struggling to rack up the Ks, there’s a good chance that the Braves put the ball in play after knocking 12 base hits yesterday.

We like the Braves to get to at least four runs with nine innings to work with.

PICK: Braves team total Over 3.5 (best odds: -140 at BetMGM)

Joc Pederson has a .441 ISO and wOBA of .465 in his last 38 plate appearances against right-handed pitchers. He’s hitting just 37.5 percent ground balls and 25 percent line drives in that same time frame.

Meanwhile, Urquidy has allowed a .367 wOBA and ISO of .370 against his last 30 left-handed batters faced. Pederson might be limited when it comes to opportunity, batting in the seven spot, but when he gets the chance to face Urquidy, he will definitely get a couple good swings in.

We like Pederson's total bases prop today, but taking a shot on Pederson to knock a home run isn’t a bad choice either.

PICK: Joc Pederson Over 1.5 total bases (best odds: +130 at DraftKings)

Covers World Series betting analysis

This game will likely play out the way the first game played out — the Braves will score early and the Astros will have to claw back.

Max Fried gets the start for the Braves tonight. While he had a bad outing in his last start against the Dodgers, prior to that game, he threw 15 straight quality starts and had asserted himself as Atlanta's ace.

Meanwhile, Urquidy had just one postseason start and allowed six runs in less than two innings of work.

Fried has an xFIP of 2.28 in the last 30 days, while Urquidy sports a 5.55 mark during that same span — it’s night and day.

It took a whopping three pitches for Atlanta to get on the board last night. While it might not be that quick in Game 2, we're banking on the Braves being the first team on the board again.

PICK: First team to score - Braves (best odds: -145 at DraftKings)
