Casey Mize makes his return from the IL this afternoon as the Detroit Tigers visit the Houston Astros at Daikin Park.

My Tigers vs. Astros predictions are targeting the visitors to add to Peter Lambert's recent struggles in this contest. Read more in my MLB picks for Wednesday, June 17.

Who will win Tigers vs Astros today: Tigers moneyline (-106)

The Detroit Tigers will face Houston Astros righty Peter Lambert today, and it's a matchup that should provide opportunities to generate offense. Lambert owns a 5.75 FIP over his last two starts while allowing 2.31 HR/9 during that span.

Additionally, Lambert has allowed a 42.2% hard-hit rate over the last month. While Detroit hasn't been an elite power-hitting team, they own a .231 ISO across their last six games, and Lambert is evidently having trouble keeping opponents inside the ballpark.

Meanwhile, the Tigers counter with Casey Mize, who has an impressive 2.27 ERA and 2.40 FIP overall. This is his first start since late May, but the righty has pitched well on the road, posting a 3.30 FIP while giving up just 0.93 HR/9.

I'll play this pick up to -130.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Peter Lambert has walked 4.57 hitters per nine innings over his previous four starts, which is up from his season average of 3.95 BB/9.

Tigers vs Astros Over/Under pick: Under 8.5 (-107)

My outlook here is fairly simple. Lambert should allow some offense, but likely not enough on his own to threaten this total. Mize is also well-positioned to limit damage against Houston's lineup, assuming he returns close to his previous form.

Houston's bullpen owns an impressive 3.42 xERA over the last two weeks and has surrendered just 0.66 home runs per nine innings while holding opponents to a 7.1% barrel rate. Lambert rarely pitches beyond the fifth or sixth inning, so Houston's relievers should play a major role.

As for Detroit, its bullpen sports a 3.40 FIP over the last seven days and has limited opponents to a mere 2.8% barrel rate. Even if Mize is handled cautiously in his return, the Tigers' relief corps has shown it can continue suppressing quality contact.

I'll play this pick up to -130.
