The Boston Red Sox look to continue their push up the AL East standings and pick up their fourth straight win when they welcome the Toronto Blue Jays to Fenway Park tonight.
Boston’s offense has been on fire through the club’s last six contests, averaging seven runs per game over that span, though Jays starter Chris Bassitt has been unbeatable through his last five outings.
However, my Red Sox vs. Blue Jays predictions don’t anticipate Bassitt slowing down Boston’s offense. Read on for my full MLB picks for Tuesday, June 18.
Red Sox vs Blue Jays prediction
My best bet
Red Sox team total Over 3.5 (-132 at PROLINE+)
My analysis
The Boston Red Sox cruised to a 7-3 win in the series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays thanks to two home runs and two RBI from Tyler O’Neill as well as a pair of RBI from Rafael Devers. Boston has now scored at least seven runs in five of its last six contests while going 5-1 over that span.
Jays starter Chris Bassitt will take the mound in hopes of shutting down the Red Sox — a tall task for the 35-year-old. Bassitt has been excellent for Toronto over his last five outings, allowing just four total runs over his last five starts, though he’s struggled to give his club many innings.
The right-hander is coming off a five-inning shutout against Milwaukee on June 12 and has held his opponent off the scoreboard in three of his last six appearances. However, Bassitt has gone beyond the sixth just twice in his last six appearances.
While the Jays can likely trust Bassitt to limit Boston’s damage, he’ll likely be turning the ball over to the bullpen by the sixth inning, which is where things could get problematic. Toronto’s bullpen ranks fifth worst in the majors with a brutal 4.67 ERA while giving up an MLB-worst 43 home runs.
Blue Jays star player prop
My best bet
Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 hits (+190 at PROLINE+)
After going through a four-game hitless spell last week, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. bounced back nicely on the weekend with four knocks in two games against the Guardians.
The Jays slugger extended his hit streak to three in Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox and looks to be back in rhythm as he’s recorded a hit in 11 of 16 games this month.
Vladdy has also historically done well against Red Sox starter Tanner Houck, batting .333 in his career against the righty (3-for-9). Houck has been great for Boston this year but faltered in his last outing on June 13, giving up eight hits in six innings.
