It's the most wonderful day of the year for MLB prop bets. It’s deGrom Day! With the New York Mets slumping at the dish, the Under first-five innings in Jacob deGrom starts is making a comeback when they host the Boston Red Sox.
Plus, where is the best baseball prop betting value with the MLB’s hottest hitter – (check notes) Jesse Winker – as the Cincinnati Reds go for the series sweep against the Los Angeles Dodgers?
We break down those picks and more with our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Wednesday, April 28.
Today’s MLB props and picks
Jesse Winker to Record 2+ Hits (+330)
The casual MLB bettor may not know this, but right after Mike Trout and Ronald Acuna, among the hottest hitters in baseball, is the Cincinnati Reds’ Jesse Winker.
Winker extended his hitting streak to 12 games by going 3-5 with a home run last night against the Dodgers. The Reds’ outfielder is now hitting .397 with a 1.183 OPS for the season. Winker has also hit safely in 16 of his 18 games played, has multi-hit games seven times in the last 10 games, and has 10 multi-hit games for the season.
Although Winker has a tough lefty-lefty matchup against Dodgers’ starter Clayton Kershaw, he still hits a decent .267 against lefty pitching.
That makes the value on this prop too tempting to pass up with his total bases number still at 0.5 and heavily juiced to the Over.
Red Sox-Mets Under 3.5 First Five Innings (-110)
Sound the deGrom gong! deGrom Day is back!
Jacob deGrom takes the ball for the New York Mets when they host the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, marking the return of one of our favorite MLB prop bets.
For those who don’t know, deGrom Day refers to the Under first-five inning total when deGrom takes the mound. This was a very profitable bet a few seasons ago when deGrom was dominating but the Mets couldn’t hit a lick.
Well, guess what? deGrom is still dominating, and the Mets can’t score again. New York ranks 29th in scoring, plating just 3.4 runs per game, and rank 27th in first-five inning scoring at just 1.89.
Wednesday, the Mets face off against the Red Sox’s Nick Pivetta. The right-hander, like the Red Sox in general, has gotten off to a solid start, pitching to a 3.46 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.
Do you need deGrom stats? I don’t care what lineup he is facing, the guy is the most dominant pitcher in baseball since Pedro Martinez in his prime.
Tyler Glasnow Over 8.5 Strikeouts (-130)
Tyler Glasnow looks like the latest in the long line of Tampa Bays Rays starters to become a Cy Young contender. The right-handed strikeout artist has gotten his 2021 campaign off to a fantastic start.
Glasnow throws gas with a fastball that hits 100 on the gun regularly and has one of the filthiest curveballs in baseball. As a result, he is pitching to a 3.68 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP while recording a ridiculous 16.6 strikeouts per nine innings.
The right-hander is coming off his worst start of the season, where he gave up five runs on five hits in six innings against the Toronto Blue Jays, that said he still racked up 10 punchouts.
Next up for Glasnow are the Oakland A’s, who are a middle-of-the-pack team when it comes to strikeouts, but that shouldn’t really matter. Glasnow recorded nine strikeouts against the Boston Red Sox and 10 against the Jays, who both strike out at a lower rate than the A’s. It’s hard to not like the Over at this number.
Yesterday's MLB record: 1-2, -0.4 units
