Pirates vs Brewers Prediction, Picks & Odds — Tuesday, August 12

Even with Paul Skenes on the mound for the Pirates, we can't discount just how good the Brewers have been. And with their ace Freddy Peralta countering Skenes, we like the offensive edge to be enough for Milwaukee to win again.

The Milwaukee Brewers host the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second matchup of this three-game series at American Family Field.

Despite Paul Skenes toeing the rubber for Pittsburgh, my Pirates vs. Brewers predictions target red-hot Milwaukee in front of the home faithful.

Read on for my MLB picks for Tuesday, August 12.

Pirates vs Brewers prediction

Pirates vs Brewers best bet: Brewers moneyline (-122 at Pinnacle)

Paul Skenes' presence is the only reason the far superior Milwaukee Brewers are only -122 on the moneyline. However, the Brewers also have a tremendous pitcher in Freddy Peralta to counter the Pittsburgh Pirates ace.

Through 24 starts, Peralta is 13-5 with a 3.03 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. His underlying metrics are equally impressive, as the right-hander ranks in the 64th percentile in expected ERA (xERA), 77th in expected batting average (xBA), 80th in average exit velocity, and 89th in hard-hit rate.

That success will continue against the Pirates, against whom Peralta has a 3.41 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over the past 13 meetings.

While the pitching edge still goes to Pittsburgh and Skenes, the gap is far narrower than the hitting disparity. Entering this matchup, the Pirates rank last in the league in runs per game, slugging percentage, OPS, and home runs.

On the other hand, Milwaukee ranks in the top four in scoring, hits, batting average, and on-base percentage.

Pirates vs Brewers same-game parlay (SGP)

Brewers moneyline

Christian Yelich to record a run

Brice Turang to record a run

If the Brewers are to win this game, they need to score some runs, and there may not be two better candidates than Christian Yelich and Brice Turang.

Yelich boasts a .375 batting average and a .331 weighted on-base average (wOBA) through eight plate appearances against Skenes. Meanwhile, Turang has scored five runs over his past four games.
