Alarm bells were ringing this week for the New York Yankees following six straight losses, and there’s still some tension in the air as they begin a series with the Baltimore Orioles.
Still, New York cut some of the noise with a 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels yesterday, and my Orioles vs. Yankees predictions expect Max Fried to star in a tight battle tonight.
Check out my MLB picks and betting angles for Friday, June 20.
Orioles vs Yankees prediction
My Orioles vs Yankees best bet: Under 9 (-105 at bet365)
It’ll take more than one dominant outing to erase the stink of the New York Yankees’ recent slump, with the Bronx Bombers somehow putting up zeroes in three straight games amid an ugly losing run that’s thrown the door wide open in the AL East divisional race.
When you pair those struggles with the prospect of Max Fried silencing the Baltimore Orioles' bats, the Under really jumps off the screen. That’s been a winning ticket in 21 of the Orioles’ last 30 road games, while the Yankees have cashed the Under in 20 of their last 28 games at home.
In some ways, this pick also speaks to Fried’s impressive numbers in 2025. The New York lefty boasts a stingy 1.89 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP, and he’s made it through seven innings in five of his last nine appearances.
Fried has also had the upper hand against Baltimore, with Adley Rutschman and Cedric Mullins a combined 1-for-13 against him.
Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano is no slouch either. He’s sitting on a 3.38 ERA, and he served up five scoreless innings against the Yankees back in April.
With Aaron Judge only managing three hits across his last eight matchups, and the visitors averaging just 4.01 runs per game this season, tonight may not reach the heights of prior meetings between these ballclubs.
Orioles vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)
I’ll push even more chips into the middle for a big Fried performance by taking the Over on 5.5 strikeouts. He piled up 9 Ks in Sunday’s loss to the Boston Red Sox, and he’s looking every inch a Cy Young contender.
Fried has finished with 6+ punchouts in six of his last nine starts, and he’s posted a 1.45 ERA in seven outings at Yankee Stadium this year. While the Orioles’ bats have woken up over the past week, this represents a different challenge against the New York ace, who’s inside the Top 20 in strikeouts across the majors.
Trent Grisham and Paul Goldschmidt were the home run heroes in yesterday’s victory, but Cody Bellinger played his part with three hits and an RBI. His timely offense could be the X-factor, and pitchers can quickly find themselves under pressure with Judge looming behind him in the order.
Bellinger took a liking to the L.A. pitching earlier this week, collecting six hits in the last three games of that series. He hasn’t quite kept up his torrid May form, but he’s certainly removed the doubts after a sub-par April, and I’ll gladly grab the Over on 1.5 total bases to wrap up my SGP.
