HR picks for August 5

Kyle Schwarber (+185 at DraftKings)

Kyle Schwarber is the hottest hitter in baseball. He just surpassed Shohei Ohtani for the National League lead in home runs, going deep twice on Monday against the Baltimore Orioles and hitting the 40-HR mark in the process. Schwarber has eight long balls in his last 11 appearances.

The Philadelphia Phillies face the Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer, who has an ERA over five on the road and has allowed 17 bombs this season. Schwarber is 0 for 1 lifetime, but he just went 3-for-5 with a pair of round-trippers in the series opener. Kremer has also surrendered three homers across his last two starts.

Schwarber is raking against everyone right now with eight long balls in his last 11 games. It doesn’t matter if they’re a left-hander or right-hander, but 24 of his long balls are off RHP.

Dansby Swanson (+550 at DraftKings)

The Chicago Cubs have a very good offense, and Dansby Swanson is doing his part, batting .247 with 17 home runs. He just went deep on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds, finishing the day 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

Swanson has 12 homers off right-handed hurlers, and the Reds send trade deadline acquisition Zack Littell to the bump. He’s been relatively effective, but Littell does struggle to keep opponents in the ballpark, allowing 26 long balls. Swanson is also 2-for-5 lifetime against him with a home run.

Monday’s round-tripper broke a long drought for Swanson, and that momentum can carry into this evening's MLB picks against a home run-prone pitcher.

Freddie Freeman (+400 at DraftKings)

Freddie Freeman may not be putting up his usual power numbers, but he’s still swinging the bat well. The veteran has a .305 average to go along with 13 home runs and 61 RBI. However, the power is starting to show up.

The Los Angeles Dodgers veteran has two bombs in his last four games and just went deep on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Tonight, the Cards hand Miles Mikolas the ball, and Freeman has made his life a nightmare in the past, going 9-for-20 with three HRs.

Ten of Freeman’s 13 long balls are off righties, and Mikolas has given up 18 home runs in 21 starts this year. Don’t count Freeman out to put another one in the bleachers at Dodger Stadium.
