HR picks for June 12
Byron Buxton (+340 at DraftKings)
Byron Buxton has dealt with a lot of injuries throughout his big league career, but when healthy, the former first-round pick is an electrifying player who can do a little bit of everything.
The outfielder went deep on Wednesday against the Texas Rangers, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBI. Buxton is hitting .279 on the year and has six hits already in this series vs. Texas. Today’s matchup certainly plays in his favor, too, as the Rangers will send Patrick Corbin to the hill — and Buxton has two career bombs off of him.
While only two of his 11 homers are off southpaws, the Minnesota slugger is batting .323 compared to .271 against righties. The 31-year-old is red-hot at the moment, and he'll make sure one of his hits leaves the yard.
Juan Soto (+300 at DraftKings)
Juan Soto is finally coming alive for the New York Mets, which is no surprise.
I was spot on with Wednesday’s pick as Soto left the ballpark for the second game in a row against his ex-team in the Washington Nationals. I’m eyeing a third straight here.
The 26-year-old, who now has 13 home runs this season, will be loving today’s matchup. The Nats hand a struggling Mike Soroka the ball. The Canadian righty has a 4.86 ERA, allowing six bombs in just seven starts. Soto, meanwhile, is 6-for-10 lifetime vs. Soroka with a pair of homers.
Ten of Soto’s long balls are off right-handed hurlers, and he's tearing the cover off the baseball at the moment.
Paul Goldschmidt (+550 at DraftKings)
Although Paul Goldschmidt had a down year in 2024 with the St. Louis Cardinals, signing with the New York Yankees in the offseason represented a fresh start for one of the best hitters in the big leagues over the last decade.
He’s fully lived up to expectations, hitting .312 with seven homers up to this point.
The Yanks face the Royals tonight, and they'll give Seth Lugo the start. Lugo is having a nice campaign, but he won’t be keen to see Goldschmidt in the batter’s box. The veteran is 8-for-14 lifetime against Lugo with two home runs.
Goldschmidt has just one bomb so far in June, but he’s in the midst of a three-game hitting streak. The 37-year-old is also swinging it substantially better on the road with a .384 average compared to .220 in the Bronx, as well as four highway homers to his name.
