The San Francisco Giants and New York Mets conclude a three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field.

Frankie Montas takes the mound for the home team, which shouldn’t inspire confidence given his recent performance.

See why I’m fading the right-hander with my Giants vs. Mets predictions and MLB picks for Sunday, August 3.

Giants vs Mets prediction

My Giants vs Mets best bet: Frankie Montas Over 2.5 earned runs allowed (+115 at Caesars)

Although the San Francisco Giants aren’t known for their offensive prowess, they hit right-handed pitching much better than they do left-handed pitching. Since the All-Star Break, they rank eighth in wRC+ (116) against RHP, which stands as a stark contrast to their mark against LHP (79 wRC+).

Frankie Montas enters Sunday with a point to prove, having allowed four earned runs or more in three of his last five outings. I’ll need to see it before I believe it.

His 5.46 ERA isn’t great, and his 5.02 xERA indicates that it’s not a fluke. The veteran right-hander has been hit hard (10.5% barrel rate) and doesn’t generate many strikeouts (20% strikeout rate). If you’re going to pitch to contact, you probably shouldn’t rock a .292 xBA.

It’ll be a warm day at Citi Field with temperatures in the 80s throughout the contest, so hitters will have every chance to do damage.

San Francisco’s bats have been hot in the first two games of the series, plating 10 runs. There’s plus money on them tagging Montas for more than 2.5 earned runs, and I’m biting.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Giants vs Mets same-game parlay (SGP)

Giants moneyline

Carson Whisenhunt Over 3.5 strikeouts

Rafael Devers Over 1.5 total bases

The New York Mets haven’t hit left-handed pitching well (78 wRC+ since the All-Star Break), so rookie Carson Whisenhunt should give the Giants every chance to pull off the upset. The most bullish project system (ZIPS) calls for 8.3 strikeouts per nine innings from the former East Carolina matchup, which pairs nicely with a favorable matchup.

Devers rakes against righties (138 wRC+) and has found success against Montas in the past (6-for-14 with a 1.038 OPS).
