Dodgers vs Rockies Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s MLB Game

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages has been a man possessed in June, slashing .349/.353/.640 with a 170 wRC+. 

He’s homered six times this month and has knocked in 18 runs, making his mark in a star-studded lineup that has had to carry the team on its back, given the number of injuries the pitching rotation is dealing with. 

Thursday brings a matchup against Austin Gomber of the Colorado Rockies. The southpaw had a disastrous outing in his last start against the Diamondbacks, surrendering nine earned runs on 12 hits and a walk while failing to record a single strikeout in 4 2/3 innings

Gomber has made just two starts this season since returning from a shoulder injury, but so far, he’s struggled mightily against right-handed batters. The 31-year-old has an 8.66 FIP and a microscopic 5.4% K rate against righties.

Small sample size, sure, but a year ago righties tagged him for a .286/.329/.489 slash line. Also, the left-handed hurler’s 88 Stuff+ is one of the lowest numbers seen from any starting pitcher this season. 

His two most-thrown pitches against righties, the four seamer and the changeup, are Pages’ two favorite offerings. Pages crushes changeups, in particular (career 174 wRC+).

Once Gomber is chased from the ballgame, the Rockies will have to rely on a disastrous bullpen with a 6.64 ERA since June 10. Their relievers have combined to surrender eight earned runs through the first two games of this series.

Coors Field always favors offense, but that’ll be especially true today with temperatures in the mid-80s throughout the matinee. The books are well aware of L.A.’s chances of a successful day at the dish, so prices are at a premium. 

Pages’ Hits, Runs, and RBI prop is set at 2.5. I fancy the Over, considering he’s uniquely poised to rake (favorable platoon and pitch type splits) and is averaging 3.5 Hits, Runs, and RBI across his last 10 games.

L.A. trots out Clayton Kershaw to the mound. Dave Roberts’ squad has to feel great about its chances, considering Colorado is 2-20 against left-handed starters and also isn’t great at home (8-31). 

Kershaw doesn’t have the same stuff he used to, but he’s making it work. The veteran southpaw has allowed three earned runs across his last three starts (17 innings) while striking out 16 and walking three. 

Shohei Ohtani mashes against lefties (.312 BA and 156 wRC+) and righties alike, and he’s in a great spot to bop a home run given the weather conditions and with a hitter’s umpire (Nic Lentz) behind the dish.
