Cordell's best bet: Even against a solid left-hander like Reds SP Nick Lodolo, Dodgers OF Teoscar Hernandez will come through with the bat at Great American Ballpark.

Teoscar Hernandez is scorching hot at the plate. He has recorded multiple bases in four of his past five games, including the series opener against Cincinnati.

My Dodgers vs. Reds predictions see Hernandez building on his strong form Tuesday night against left-hander Nick Lodolo. Let’s break it all down with my July 29 MLB picks.

Dodgers vs Reds prediction

My Dodgers vs Reds best bet: Teoscar Hernandez Over 1.5 total bases (-105 at DraftKings)

Teoscar Hernandez is one of the best hitters in the league against left-handed pitching. He hit .290 with a near .300 ISO vs. lefties a season ago and has taken it up another notch this year, sporting a .328 average and .344 ISO.

He draws a lefty – albeit a good one – tonight in Cincinnati Reds SP Nick Lodolo. While Lodolo has been tough on right-handed bats this season, he’s used the fastball as his primary weapon.

That is unlikely to lead to success against Hernandez, who is more productive (by far) against the fastball than any other pitch when facing a lefty.

Hernandez owns an absurdly high .476 average with a .543 wOBA and .762 SLG% against southpaw fastballs, and has posted a whiff rate below 5%.

It’s going to be tough for Lodolo to get fastballs by the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder. Facing a lefty in one of the more hitter-friendly parks on a hot and humid day, this is the perfect storm for Hernandez to dish out damage.

Dodgers vs Reds same-game parlay (SGP)

Teoscar Hernandez 2+ total bases

Freddie Freeman 2+ total bases

Tyler Glasnow 7+ strikeouts

Lodolo surprisingly struggles against same-handed bats, allowing a .290 average and 1.50 WHIP vs. lefties this year. He throws a ton of curveballs vs. left-handed hitters, against which Freddie Freeman excels. Freeman has recorded multiple bases in seven of the last eight Dodgers wins, and they are clear favorites tonight.

Tyler Glasnow has 23 strikeouts through three games since returning from injury despite facing opponents outside the Top 15 in K% each time. The Reds have the eighth-highest K% against right-handed pitchers this season and are a good target for Glasnow to build on his 12-strikeout performance.
