The St. Louis Cardinals visit the favored Atlanta Braves tonight, with Dustin May in a good position to bounce back from a tough outing.

Against a struggling Atlanta offense, I'm eyeing May to toss a gem in my Cardinals vs. Braves predictions. Read more in my MLB picks for Thursday, July 2.

Who will win Cardinals vs Braves today: Cardinals moneyline (+101)

Dustin May allowed six earned runs last time out to the Royals, but before that, the right-hander was in great form. He threw back-to-back scoreless outings, even tossing a complete game shutout against the Padres.

Over May's last four outings, he owns a 2.62 FIP while allowing just 0.79 HR/9. He comes up against an Atlanta Braves offense that's in horrendous shape, hitting just .171 over the last week with a .057 ISO.

Hurston Waldrep simply hasn't logged enough Major League innings to inspire much confidence, forcing Atlanta to lean on an unproven arm against a St. Louis Cardinals lineup that should generate more opportunities than it has recently.

I'll play this pick up to -130.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Atlanta has just 36 wRC+ over the last week, compared to a 97 mark overall this season. They cannot find any consistency offensively.

Cardinals vs Braves Over/Under pick: Under 9.5 (-137)

This Braves bullpen has a 2.16 FIP over its last 20 innings of work, and it may be called upon early with Hurston Waldrep making his first start of the season.

This Cardinals offense carries just a 29 wRC+ over its last five games entering this matchup. St. Louis may scratch out a few runs against Waldrep, but Atlanta's dominant bullpen should limit any sustained offense.

As for the St. Louis relief corps, it owns a 3.27 FIP over the last seven days and, as previously mentioned, the Braves have been one of the worst offensive teams in baseball lately. Over the last month, Atlanta has averaged just 3.41 runs per game while posting a .117 ISO.

Overall, this profiles as a low-scoring matchup. I'd play this pick up to -140.

Cardinals vs Braves weather

Conditions should be favorable for offense in Atlanta, with first-pitch temperatures around 93°F before cooling into the mid-80s as the game progresses. Winds are expected to remain light throughout the evening, limiting any major impact, but the warm air could help well-struck balls carry a bit farther. Even so, the recent struggles from both offenses and two reliable bullpens remain the bigger factors supporting a lower-scoring game.
