The Belmont Stakes brings the Triple Crown trail to a close on Saturday, June 6, with a field of nine set for this $2 million contest at Saratoga.

My Belmont Stakes Win, Place, and Show picks are focused on favored Renegade, while trying to sneak Commandment into the picture as the co-fourth choice in the Belmont Stakes odds.

2026 Belmont Stakes picks

Best bet: No. 4 Renegade to win

Win prediction: Renegade (+200 to win at FanDuel)

Renegade has made significant strides since starting out 0-for-3 as a two-year-old.

The Todd Pletcher trainee took both the Sam F. Davis Stakes and the Arkansas Derby to kick off his three-year-old season. He was jostled quite a bit early on in the Kentucky Derby, due in no small part to his rail draw. That forced him to settle far off the pace, and then he came running late to just miss the victory.

Irad Ortiz Jr. doesn't have to worry about the rail post in the Belmont Stakes, and Renegade has trained well in the lead-up to this race. He is the one to beat.

Place prediction: Commandment (+600 to win at FanDuel)

Commandment didn't have a great trip in the Derby, either. Off slowly, he settled in 13th, as far off the pace as he's been in his whole career.

Luis Saez kept this Brad Cox trainee 5-6 wide throughout, losing precious ground. I believe that's what contributed to his fade from fourth to seventh in the final furlong.

If John Velazquez can save some ground on Commandment, he'll be heard from late on Saturday.

Show prediction: Chief Wallabee (+300 to win at FanDuel)

Chief Wallabee was a game fourth in the Kentucky Derby, making up ground in the stretch. His win odds are a little lower than I was expecting, but he's hard to leave off the tickets.

He's proven tactically versatile, giving jockey Junior Alvarado options depending on if the Belmont Stakes pace is fast or slow. Chief Wallabee has just one career win, but he's never missed the superfecta in four career starts.

I appreciate that Bill Mott has gotten some stamina-building five-furlong workouts into this son of Constitution, too.
