Breeders' Cup Odds: Sovereignty Shortens After Jim Dandy Score

There's still over three months to go until the 2025 Breeders' Cup Classic, but Sovereignty has stamped himself as the clear frontrunner in the early betting over a horse he's beaten twice in Journalism.

The Breeders' Cup odds for the 42nd annual thoroughbred championships are on the move following Sovereignty's latest score in the Jim Dandy Stakes.

The Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes champion shortened from +300 to +200 to win the Breeders' Cup Classic following his latest victory over Baeza. Meanwhile, Haskell winner Journalism's Breeders' Cup Classic odds stood pat at +700, as he remains the second-choice in the wagering.

Let's take a look at the latest Breeders' Cup odds for the $7 million Classic as well as the Distaff and the Sprint, which will all be held the weekend of Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 2025 at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.

Odds to win Breeders' Cup Classic 2025

Horse bet365
Sovereignty +200
Journalism +700
Fierceness +800
Mindframe +1000
Forever Young +1000
Sierra Leone +1000
Thorpedo Anna +1100
Nysos +1100
Baeza +1200

Odds as of 7-27.

Sovereignty faced a compact but quality field in the Grade II Jim Dandy Stakes on Saturday defeating Baeza, Hill Road, Mo Plex, and Sandman. He raced wide throughout and chased a slow pace, but it didn't matter.

Bettors continue to be enamored with the Bill Mott trainee, knocking him down to a short +200 to win the 42nd Breeders' Cup Classic.

Good Cheer is still favored in the Breeders' Cup Distaff odds despite a dismal effort in the slop in the Grade I Acorn when last seen. The winner of that race, La Cara, had her return to the track in the Grade I Coaching Club American Oaks postponed by a barn quarantine.

Scottish Lassie, who won the CCA Oaks by over 15 lengths over Immersive, stamped herself as another threat in this division.

Reigning Distaff winner Thorpedo Anna is co-favored with Good Cheer despite interest in competing in the Classic.
