Closing in tandem with Golden Tempo in the Kentucky Derby stretch run was Renegade, who overcame his rail draw to finish second.
Trainer Todd Pletcher has played no small part in making the Derby-Belmont layoff popular in this century, in part because he's won this race that way three times. His first of four Belmont wins came with the filly Rags to Riches, who won the Kentucky Oaks just one day before the Derby.

In some instances, a heavily-favored horse could have odds of 3/5. Which means you would need to wager five dollars to win three.
It is also common to see Belmont Stakes odds displayed in decimal style, especially when the fractions get more complicated as you get closer to the race.
