The Grade I, $2 million Belmont Stakes — the third and final leg of the Triple Crown — will be contested for the 157th time on Saturday, June 7 at Saratoga Race Course.

Belmont Park is still under construction, so the race is once again being held "upstate" at the historic Saratoga Springs venue at 1 1/4-miles instead of the standard 1 1/2-mile distance of the "Test of the Champion" due to track configuration.

Belmont Stakes odds for 2025 will be revealed following the post position draw on Monday, June 2.

  • Journalism: He's put his heart on display on the Triple Crown trail, running a game second in the Kentucky Derby before bulling his way to a Preakness Stakes triumph.
  • Sovereignty: The Kentucky Derby winner will be fresh for this race after skipping the Preakness Stakes.
  • Rodriguez: The Wood Memorial winner was forced to scratch due to injury in the Kentucky Derby and has not raced since.

🐴 Spotlight: Journalism

Trainer: Michael McCarthy
Sire: Curlin
Recent Form: 1st - Preakness Stakes

Journalism's camp hemmed and hawed about running in the Preakness, but the decision to compete paid off in spades as the son of Curlin overcame a troubled trip to reel in Gosger at the wire.

Will fatigue catch up to this Michael McCarthy trainee, or will he take the 1 1/4-mile Belmont?

🎯 Belmont Stakes long shot to watch: Hill Road

Hill Road got very little pace to chase in the Peter Pan Stakes, the local prep for the Belmont Stakes, when last seen but won anyway thanks to a brilliant ride from Flavien Prat. Trainer Chad Brown was third with eventual Breeders' Cup Classic winner Sierra Leone in the 2024 Belmont.

How to bet on the Belmont Stakes

Horse racing bets usually fall under two categories: straight and exotic. A straight winner is focused on the performance of a single horse and you make picks for win, place or show. Exotic bets require picking how multiple horses finish the race like with the exacta, trifecta and superfecta. How to read Belmont Stakes odds

Horse racing odds are often displayed as fractions, which makes for simple math: divide one number by another and then take that sum and multiply it by your bet amount. For example, the favorite of a given race could be 3/1. The means a one dollar wager would net a three-dollar profit.

In some instances, a heavily-favored horse could have odds of 3/5. Which means you would need to wager five dollars to win three.

It is also common to see Belmont Stakes odds displayed in decimal style, especially when the fractions get more complicated as you get closer to the race. In that case you simply multiply your bet by the number given. If you don’t like how odds are displayed at your sportsbook, use our odds converter tool to switch to American, fractional or decimal style odds.

What is the Belmont Stakes?

The Belmont Stakes is a prestigious horse racing event held annually in the United States. It is the third and final race of the Triple Crown series, following the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. The race typically takes place at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, just outside of New York City.

The Belmont Stakes is known for its rich history and tradition. It was first run in 1867 and is named after August Belmont Sr., a prominent 19th-century banker and racing enthusiast. The race is often referred to as the "Test of the Champion" due to its demanding distance of 1.5 miles (12 furlongs), making it the longest of the Triple Crown races.

The Belmont Stakes is considered a significant event in the world of horse racing and attracts top thoroughbred racehorses from around the country. Winning the Triple Crown, which requires a horse to win all three races in the series, is a highly coveted achievement. The most recent Triple Crown winner was Justify in 2018, who joined the elite company of horses such as Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and American Pharoah.

The Belmont Stakes is not only about the race itself but also the festive atmosphere surrounding it. It is a popular event attended by racing enthusiasts, celebrities, and fans alike. The race day is filled with traditions, including the singing of "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra before the race and the presentation of the Belmont Stakes Trophy to the winning horse's connections.
